What are the chances that older versions will be released?

Like 6.5. I would love to see that (and since 7.6 is now free it doesn't seem very strange that the older versions should be).

I know people are going to be in shock when I say that making the older versions would be great for those who's system isn't up to 7.6's par.

Thanks

Mike

I would have said no, for the simple reason that each version after 3 requires a license to be paid to Lightworks.

HOWEVER, tS7.6 has Lightworks so someone must be paying them for the use of it...so, maybe.

I also wonder if we will be able to buy (at reasonable cost) the latest LW render engine and integrate it??

Integrating the current Lightworks engine as a plugin should certainly be doable if someone is willing to pay for the Lightworks SDK...

Bravo and thank you!

I expect this will become the PLE and newer versions paid for. Thats fine though. I hope 7.6 will be as fun as it looks. It feels nice to be given a free copy and to do a little testing for old times sake.

BTW - Is the multipass renderering plug in intergerated? I did'nt see mention of this in the specs.

You know, one interesting aspect of this announcement is that with XNA Game Studio Express being free as well, indie developers now have a free and sophisticated 3D modeling app to build content with. I wonder how long it'll be until XNA's website notices Caligari's annoucement. Now if they could do the same with Photoshop... ;)

Great, and there is the new renderer;

Also would be nice to get LWA content:

I only bought 6.6 at the beginning of the year but even so, I think it is a good idea to give 7.6 away for free... it will increase the tS community and also increase future revenue adn those that has bought 7.5 or before can see it as an investment in the company and the future versions of tS to fund version 8 and onwards!

Way to go Caligari!!! :)

I for one would not have been able to afford 7.5 for perhaps years to come and would have waited for another great special like the 6.6 New Year one...

Perhaps now I can become proficient enough and begin freelancing or get a 3d modeling/animation job as full time... then I will definately buy the next full version as soon as it comes out :)

AND, now I can save my money for a PC upgrade to run 7.6 better instead of saving for both!!!

Thanks again guys, you've made my year!!! :)

Actually, you know what I think is quite cool. I ordered a new video card (radeon 4850) and thought I bet truespace will be released and I'll need the money to pay for it...and it was released but for free.

This is by far my favorite comment made so far. It captures the "spirit" behind the release of trueSpace7.6 for free (well in my mind).

I can understand some are less than happy with how the timing of this worked out. I hope they will come to appreciate the spirit rather than the timing of the release. :)

This is truely amazing... It's better that Google Earth combination with SketchUP... but I thought Virtual Earth was using 3DVIA - another sketch-up-into-the-3rd-dimension tool from Dessault Systems...oh well.

I got into TS 5.2 a while back on the old computer but then on the new one I got into Carrara 3d Express for a good price. now I will get into TS again

3DVIA is still a valid option for modeling in VE. It has less tools, which is both why it may suit you better, or may not suit you better - there is less to learn and get to grips with, which makes it easier if you are a casual modeler. The extra tools in tS take more to learn - but then you have more options in the end, which gives you more power, choices, and can allow you to make more complex models, or make them faster.

So it's "horses for courses" - pick which one best suits your needs. tS also features import, so you can load up models you've made in other applications and move them onto VE.

And of course tS is also a general purpose 3D authoring tool as well, so you can make regular ol images and animations with it.

HTH!

Hi,

Is it possible to access the new website via an IP address so that those folks who don't see the changes yet can see them?

I just got the new page up :D

Thanks Roman and Caligari !!!

Being 'financially challenged' most of the time is a real pain - Thanks for making this painless for me. I guess Thanks is due to Microsoft also, I imagine that their acquisition of Caligari made this possible. The tools I've played with so far are Outstanding as usual - can't wait to dig deeper.

Thanks Again,

rf

This is unbelieveable! I had no idea a release was this close, i thought another few months away at least, but free!!

Just goes to show those of us who got depressed when micrsoft bought caligari (including myself) have been shown the error of our ways.

It also means i haven't payed for a version of truespace since 6.6 years ago!

Thank you Roman, Caligari and Microsoft!

Yay

A very Big thanks to Caligari and all involved in the hard work of getting to this point.

Having been made redundant from work 3 weeks ago , things around here have been a little gloomy, but this has cheered me up no end!!:jumpy:

Not only can I afford the amazing price of ZERO, but for a change I have loads of time to actually learn the ins and outs of the program.

Having whizzed through the latest manual, it seems like you have fixed/upgraded/added pretty well all the little niggles and omissions that I had hoped for. That's pretty damn impressive guys!!

So a huge vote of thanks from me

IK is now off the fence!

Yours

IK Handel

PS

Out of curiousity 2 days ago I checked out virtual earth for the Caligari Corp address.. Hmm.... surely this is one building that ABSOLUTELY should be there in glorious 3D???, I mean I was expecting it to be almost jumping off the page in 3Dness lol, but unless I was doing something wrong, your offices are just as flat as google (irony) down the road... Opportunity missed?

I have a question regarding the license. The license stipulates that the license is granted for use on one computer. What is the option for acquiring additional licenses if you want one copy on a PC and another on your laptop???

I'm guessing here, but maybe just download another copy and register it separately?

Hi, I am for first time here :)

I am happy TS becomes free and will try to learn it. I was about (not too close yet) to by Softimage|XSI foundation when they stopped it. Sad. Making Truespace free is a good news. :)

But just got a problem: after installing TS my opera becomes unusable. Is there any connection? As I understand TS is MS property now... IE works...

Does anybody has this problem?

Is there any... spyware or adware?

No spy or adware. I'm unaware of why it would affect the operation of a browser - do we have any other opera users here that could comment? Does it work fine for you?

Do you get an error from Opera, or see a particular kind of problem? (Not sure if it just doesnt run, if it runs but wont display pages properly, etc).

Thanks!

Tom

I can not see the relation too but after I run TS my Opera refused to open any webpage. I reinstalled it - the same. Then I uninstall it and install old version - can not even run. My processor becomes at 99% engaged by opera and still no opera. I didn't installed anything today or yesterday or soon.

Don't have an idea what is it... Running some scans here... It just coincided with the run of TS.
