You've got a nice Pontiac, Vette, Batmobile look goin on. Did you want the seam to show? The wheels (center cap) stick out too far. Keep it going to the next level, I'd like to see how this progresses.

I couldn't model a car if you paid me so take my critiques at face value.:)

If you go for the Thunderdome look, leave the hubcaps sticking out (and just add the spikes -).

Nice start!

I agree that the wheels and fenders were projecting out too much. This is not only a wip but a learn in progress also. Don't make much progress as I only have an hour or so to work on it. Added some different wheels that I had created and modified the front somewhat. Not sure how the light will end up.

Had to try a red color just to see how it would look.

I knew the red color didn't look correct/good but wasn't sure what was wrong. It turns out that I didn't have ray trace turned on. Here is the way I wanted the color to look. Like I said this is a learn in progress.

Haven't given up yet. Have been trying to draw some headlight and taillight.

Some times TS6.6 gets very slow. Just how much computer power is really needed. I have a AMD 64 2800 with 1 gig of memory and 2 hard drive. 1-40g and 2-160g. Also how can you determine how many polygons are used in a file. Anyway here is progess rear view with one taillight added.

Wasn't happy with the taillights and image. Here is a new rear view with 4 lights added and a detail view in corner of the image.

Looking good, although the paint job on the car seems a little strange.....

Just wanted to add an post to show that I haven't given up yet. Had to regress a little bit as I was working in the 2nd subdiv mesh and I need to go back to the 1st level. lost some of the work but that ok as you learn by making mistakes.

Also how can you determine how many polygons are used in a file.

Right click the Object Tool.
Select 'None' from the drop-down list of objects.
Read # of polies in scene.

Just another image to show that I am still working on this when I get some spare time. Hopefully some day I will complete it.

Just a few minor additions to rear. No real plan just model and try to learn as

progressing.

Is this a single subdivision cage for the entire body !?

How did you get it too look this good...I would have expected a lot of distortions around the finely detailed rear window?

I have a car project of my own that I would like to try, but havn't really started apart from positioning the front, rear, top, side reference pics...

Not sure which approach to take...full subdiv, one subdiv/body panel or just a polygon model (no Sdiv)

(not as creative as you, I'll try to recreate an existing car before trying to design one :o )

I appreciate your good comments but I don't think the model is all that smooth yet. Needs some tweaking, but when I try a few adjustments and it doesn't give me the results I want, I just tell myself that I will work out those kinks later. Not sure which one of your descriptions really fits as I am not sure of the terms 'full subdiv, one subdiv & etc.' I think its a just a polygon model. I tried using a box model approach, but I had trouble getting the results I wanted. I wanted the wheel openings to be perfectly round and smooth so I started by construcing the wheel opening using a sphere and then deleting all of the polygons/vertices not needed for this shape. I then used the polygon tools plugins to simply add additional polygons working outward. I copied the front wheel opening created from this sphere to use as the rear wheel opening and then connected them by drawing additional

polygons using the plugin. I had trouble connecting the 2 object until I figured out that I needed to boolean add them together to be able to make the plugin work as it only adds polygons to one object. I have attached some images that shows how I started. The first images show how I started and the second shows currect model with 0 level subdivs and 2 levels subdivs. Right now I just model 1/2 and copy and mirror before rendering.

Just a couple of more images to show a revised front design. Wasn't really that happy with the previous design.

New front looks better. there is some dimpling at the top of the headlights... may want to smooth that out. I'm sure you used smooth shading... perhaps the paintbrush with auto just in those areas.

Nice job, maybe add some more textures around the hood? I would also advise that you revise the entire look of the sides, to give it more realism.

Forgot to add, quite an interesting design! Don't listen to my previous comments, they were just a bunch of bull anyway. I'll say right now, keep it up!

Eventually, get around to the finishing touches and post it in the image gallery.

I'll be watching.;)

Will eventually get around to adding more detail. Right now have added the mirrors, and tried a yellow paint scheme just for the fun of it. On the yellow scheme you can see rear louvers looks like they were in a accident.

If you angle the rear louvers or thicken them a bit, then they should look as good as the rest of the car

Had a little time to work on this some more so I cleaned up the rear louvers and added a few more details.

I noticed you've added a line segmant for the trunk, is that a bump map? or did you add more polys to give that a line?

I took the easy way and just added more polys and then painted the faces black to create trunk line and also the door pulls and gas cap. I think the correct way would be to actually create an edge but I decided this is fine.

If the model was perfect I can later delete the dark painted polys and then extrude the edges.

Beautiful work. I think the original front was workable also, but, real nice design.

Can you show a wireframe view of the latest version, for this novice?:)

I have attached a wire frame screen grab of the side and top views. I also consider myself as a novice as I haven't quite figured out how to do the fine details around the windows, headlights and etc. Had trouble with side windows also ,so thats why the mesh is strange looking. I didn't start with a box model approach and now I haven been expermenting with that as it my be a better method.
