Lol if you even remember me by now! It's been a really long time since I've been on the forums... I've missed the forums here!
I just happened to see that TrueSpace 7.6 was free, so I downloaded it, and it is absolutely AWESOME! I actually gave up working in 7.51 because I couldn't figure it out and it was way too slow (so I used 6.6 instead), but 7.6 is just a dream come true!! I love the cloth tool! It'll keep me entertained for weeks!! Lol so I'm not just posting this thread to talk about my boring life and interests lol, I also have a question... I noticed that the cloth attributes don't work in the "Model" tab, and I don't own V-Ray, so is it not possible for me to render cloth animations?
Thanks :)

You cant render cloth animations even with V-Ray. Right now the cloth is real-time only - you can screen capture it though, and with the real-time engine it looks real good :) Or you can freeze it in place for use in images. Note you can't use real-time Render To Frame either at present, since there is no way to "record" the cloth as things stand.
Thanks!

Thanks Tom!
One thing I've wondered for a long time is how do you screen capture a video? Do you need some kind of program or is it this obvious button on the keyboard I'm missing lol?

You'd need a program to do it. Cam Studio is free for instance, and I am sure there are many other options out there.
HTH!

Thank you :)
I might install it on my laptop because I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't appreciate any additional software of mine on the desktop lol
Oh, and btw I have successfully crashed TS 7.6 by running over a stormtrooper helmet (with the cloth attributes) with a Bentley while running a simulation, and then deleting the Bentley, and I have to congratulate Caligari on creating the absolute greatest window that pops up informing you of a crash. It gives you an option to e-mail Caligari about the crash AND gives an option where you can attempt to save the scene!!! AMAZING!! Thank you Caligari for making every crash TS may have completely unstressful :)

Hopefully crashes will become a thing of the past. One of the major focuses with 7.6 was stability. So if you guys see any bugs (particularly crash bugs!) make sure to report them so they can be squashed.
Keep in mind that Caligari usually does a patch 4-6 weeks after release to address issues discovered after the software goes public. So now is the time to let Caligari know about any issues that need fixing or improvement before they move on to working on the next version.
Spacekdet's post in the feature request section is a very good example of what the devs need to hear about what's not working for you or your workflow. |

@trueSpaced
The animation I did at
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=5807
shows exactly what TomG says
- first part was captured from screen (I use Camtasia)
- when the curtain layed on the floor it was frozen (hit physics button for start/stop/continue)
- now when the curtain gets shifted out of the scene real animation done with VRay begins
- the two parts -capture-animation were then just put together to one video
Until cloth can be rendered this will be the way
to get the Continue funcionality you have to check in LE inside PhysEngine the Continue status |
