First of all, Hiya,

I'm RAMWolff or better still just call me Richard!! (yea, RAMWolff is spelled with two F's, not a typo! ;) )

Secondly,

Thanks so much to Caligari for making this program and the tutorials and courses free for all. This is fabulous!!

Now my questions....

Being a user of Poser content is there a way or is there a plugin or is there a plugin being discussed to make importing full characters into the program?? I see that morph dials are supported, obj's are importable. Rigging though seems to be the problem I guess unless trueSpace can deal with Poser's native rigging or convert it. DAZ did some good work with Carrara by getting it to import native Poser characters and convert or works with the native rigging somehow.

I know that many of you like to create your work from scratch and I'm so impressed by anyone that has that gumption and concentration but really when you get down to it a tools a tool and if it's possible to make use of this program to make content for the Poser meshes (like Victoria 4 or Apollo Maximus) ( :p ) then many in the Poser community will gladly jump on board. Then perhaps even more plugins will be made to make this program even more user friendly and useful.

So if all one can do is import a static OBJ at this point then I guess that's what we have.

Thanks and glad to be here.

Richard ;-)~

You can load OBJ, you can also load (and save) BVH which you can save to from Poser. There have been several examples of poser imported items, I am sure someone with some experience of that will come forward soon :)

BTW use the LUUV plugin for OBJ loading and saving, rather than the OBJ in the File menu. The LUUV is a free plugin that you need to load on the Model side.

Hm... if you import BVH can you continue to pose your character in truespace for animation? never tried; never messed with BVH so that's why I'm asking.

Hi, Iam a regular Truespace 7.5 7.6 and POSER user. I use poser pro to export to Truespace 7.6 via object, 3ds or Collada. Obj and 3ds of course you import in to the Truespace model side. Collada you import on the workview side. Poser 7 does not do Collada only Poser Pro. But Iam looking in to work arounds for Poser users. So for for static imports from Poser 7 to Truespace my best results have been using the 3ds format. Iam gettng real close to doing FULL FLEDGED CHARACTERS WITH ANIMATIONS FROM POSER PRO TO TRUESPACE 7.6 WORKSPACE via Collada. Will let you know real soon..

This Poser character exported from Poser Pro via Collada. Imported via collada in to XSI. But will soon have Truespace doing the same (I hope)!

Wait for this gif animation to load ...

It is a Poser Collada export in to XSI. Iam working on the same for Truespace!

Hi Frootee,

Yes, I am pretty sure you can!

The naming convention on the BVH from the DexterZye character and the SportsPak and JediBones which are included in TS7.6 are Poser compatible.

I have Mr Bones monster pak of over 1000 bvh animations (Thanks Mr Bones) and I import them ALL the time in to Poser and Truespace for instant animations. They work perfect on Poser characters AND I drop those Bvh animated skeletons right on my Truespace characters in Truespace for instant animations (acutally just install one of the Truebones skeletons (or any of the mikes moves, sports bvh or dexters skeleton in your library folder) on to your character in Truespace then all the other animations you just use the ANIM CLIPS from the bvh clips. I have posted several posts on doing it. See my previous post in this thread ..

So then BVH is the solution for keeping the rigging in tact??

OK then, are there any folks that do morphs on Poser characters and export and have them work as expected??

Working my way through the tutorials right now. That English guy that's doing the narrating sounds strangely non human. Not a cut down but his voice is without much inflection, which I guess is appropriate for this sort of work!! LOL

Hi Ram,

You can save the Character mesh that is skinned to the BVH file, as an .rsObject Collada or Direct-X file to keep the skin rigging intact to the bones.

The .BVH file contains the skeleton and animation information only.

In addition you could save the animation as an animation .RSclip file once it is rigged and weightpainted to the character mesh.

Once saved as an RsClip file these animation clips can be applied to rigged characters with the push of a button.

I have a tutorial that demonstrated the animation clip process.

I hope this is helpful for you.

Hi Ram, I also have some tutorials below. Here is my workflow.

1. Go to your LIBRARY BROWSER/ bvh mikes moves or bvh sports folder.

2. Load one of those skeletons (those skeletons are perfect because they accept all the bvh "anims clips" from all the skeletons in the mikes moves and bvh sports folder AND most all truebones.com bvh motions)

3. Insert that skeleton in to your character object. Then using the shape skeleton tool get all fitting proper. Then attach skin to skeleton.

4. after that you can do some weight painting and joint limiting if you like.

5. Now you can load on lots of bvh ANIM CLIPS easily.

Forgetting the rigging for a second, as everything I hear is leading me to think I may actually be able to do that now... Let's say one has an imported welded mesh ready to be re-rigged. How to get the morphs transferred? I gather that the morph tools are similar, but can we load morphs? Do we have to take the same considerations as in Poser, such as keeping vertex order, respecting groups, all morphs having same number of polygons etc.? Or can we only create morphs using the existing soft select and other tools? Can TS export morphs or parts of meshes for sculpting in another program? Am I going to have triangulation problems in my conversion process now? Sorry for so many rhetorical questions; I'm feeling the urge to dive in, but I want to know if there are any specific old habits I can look forward to breaking...
