Anyone seen something like this?
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/attachment.php?attachmentid=13385&stc=1&d=1216928001
This is how tS7.6 "works" on my machine. I see only model side and not all of them. Even child windows won't show up and player side is completely hidden. tS7.51 demo worked perfectly.
Machine is 2.8GHz Intel with 1GB ram. Windows XP with SP3.
Anyone had any idea because i am old tS6.6 owner who gets disappointed with tS7.51 and I would like to give tS another chance because I like tS6.6 very much! |

I get a broken link on the image so not sure what you are seeing - on the specs side of things, the graphics card is the real deciding factor on how well tS7.6 runs, what card are you using (type and amount of RAM on it would both be good to know).
Thanks!

Him Tom!
Well, I have Nvidia 7600 with 256MB of vram. Driver version 175.16. As I said before, tS 7.51 demo worked without an error. Is it possible that problem might be with winXP SP3, since tS7.5 worked on SP2.
I attached image. Can you see it now?
thx

Darac,
A couple of things to try:
1.) Install 7.6 to a new directory.
2.) Try holding CTRL when clicking on the TS icon then check the "Use Default Configuration" box on the dialog that pops up. |

That card should be fine. I can see the image now too thanks! And it doesnt look like a driver or card issue.
Jack's comments hit the nail on the head for what to try next, let us know how that goes. Step by step we'll pin down the problem!
Thanks!

Hi Jack,
I've tried to do that. It doesn't help. I'm considering to uninstall service pack 3.
Btw, I've noticed that tS doesn't show in Alt-Tab list nor Task Manager Application list, only in Processes list. Strange.
thanks for your help

I think it's definitely a problem with the TS install. I vaguely remember seeing something like this but don't remember what the solution was... :( |

Hi
You could try this,go to the TS folder and find and delete the file called "default.ctx" then start TS again.

Hi Jim,
there is no file with that name in truespace folder.
Another thing that cross my mind is that I had ts7.51 demo which I uninstalled, and, is there any possibility that there are some leftovers of demo version that can be in conflict with latest version.
Since here is quite late night I'll go for now and try to do something tomorrow (including fresh installation of whole machine). If you guys have any advice, thanks in advance!
C u all!

I have Identical Graphics card and xp sp3. No problems here so they can definitely be ruled out.

Shouldn't need to re-install the machine. Just deleting any old TS directories and installing fresh should hopefully solve the problem. |

Try re-installing in safe mode. Just a hunch. |

Hi guys,
first, thank you all for your attention.
I have deleted all previous installations of tS (including 6.6). I even manually searched for files that contains caligari or truespace in names and deleted them but problem still remains the same.
Looks to me that problem is with rosetta part of truespace since default.ctx is not in my truespace folder and only 'old part' of truespace is visible to me. Something between rosetta and windows goes wrong. Maybe somebody from caligari knows what.
thank you all again!

Cannot see what the problem is here easily but I know that SP3 has different effects on different machines..it killed all internet access on mine so I removed it!
Have you cleaned out all regisrty entries for Caligari and maybe try some later Beta GPU drivers? |

I do not believe sp3 would be at fault or we would have more folks with this issue.
One idea I have is to revisit Nvidia site and this time find the Performance drivers for your card. There are several flavors of Performance for diff apps. Select the generic one. I find the card on this machine works very well with these drivers.
The only other idea I have is to make sure you are running the software as administrator. |

The different types of driver (like performance etc) only exist for Quadro cards, so wouldn't apply in this case for a "regular" NVIDIA card. Do check the drivers are up to date though and that you're using the latest release (let us know which release you are using just now).
This one looks mostly like an install issue since it is so odd. As Norm says, try installing as admin, then try running as admin. You may also want to run DXDIAG and use Save All Information and send the results in to tech support, it will give a wide picture of your system.
I'd also be kind of interested to know what your install looks like in terms of folder structure, you mention at least one expected file missing, so I wonder if something didn't install? A screen grab of what the tS folder looks like on the inside might reveal if files are missing.
I forgot to check, did you redo the download just in case it developed an error on download? This can happen, rare but possible that downloads will corrupt but not quite enough to stop them running.
The problem is unique and never-seen-before, so that's why so many diagnostics and "maybe try this" in this case :)
HTH!

Hi folks!
Well, after many installations and uninstallations (including removing of SP3), I think that my WinXP installation got broken somehow. I've installed tS7.6 on my old laptop (with WinXP SP2) and it runs slow but without an error. Installation on laptop is different in one file and that is default.ctx. After copying one from laptop to my computer everything was the same. Are default.ctx created during install or after applications first start.
As I mentioned before, rosseta part of tS seems to doesn't start and seems to me that default.ctx is important part of it. Probably I'm missing some dll (or dlls) in windows folder and I think i'm going to reinstall my computer this weekend because I really like to see tS7.6 work!
Anyway, thank you everybody for you attenition and help regarding this problem.

The default.ctx is created the first time trueSpace starts and is shut down. It is not intended to be used by another machine as it is specific to the machine it was created on. |

the default.ctx file will reside in the ts folder under the truespace folder, like this:
C:\truespace76\ts
That is where the default.ctx file is.
HTH :)
