TruePlay hasn't been updated for the new 7.6 version of the software yet, so it's not currently available.
Hopefully Tom or one of the Caligari guys will be able to give an update on plans for when (if?) it's going to be updated. My guess is that they'll probably want to work on any possibly needed bug fixes for 7.6 first though, so could be a while.
I do think it's an important feature since you don't want to have to have your clients download the full 7.6 package to view a proposal or presentation. ;) |

I wouldn't be suprised if it becomes a plug in for browsers rather than a stand alone app...certainly makes sense. |

I agree, Splinters. That would be a very cool approach. |

And who better to integrate it with windows than Microsoft...but then again, what possible interest would they have in tS?..... |

They could integrate it with silverlight, or make it an extension. I'm not sure about browser 3d plug-ins, they traditionally don't do too well.
Of course, with Microsofts marketing muscle, this may be the exception to the rule. |

Does seem odd to me as well that there is no player available for people who don't want to use a full blown 3D application just to view a project.
Maybe they have a plan, dunno - it just appears odd. |

You can use 7.6 directly for collaboration by clicking the Shared Space icon near the bottom right corner.
I'm sure Frootee and 3DFrog can give you more specific info on how to connect to the shared spaces. (I'm more of an offline modeling sorta guy myself... :o) |

TruePlay is essentially a cut down version of tS that allows anyone to view shared spaces without having to learn and use trueSpace itself. Shared spaces can have permissions set so that people can access them only with tS, only with tP, or with both.
Now because it is a cut down version of tS, they have to release it after they release the new trueSpace version. This ensures that tP will work with the new features of the most current release. It takes them a little time to prepare it after a release. I don't know what their plans are this round, but that was the process after last release. My guess is that we will likely see a new version of tP before too long. Someone from Caligari would be able to say for sure.
We can still collaborate with trueSpace though right now. There are many shared spaces hosted by Caligari that we can all visit right now with tS. In fact there is an animators meeting today (July 26) at 12pm PST. 3dfrog started this weekly animators meeting where we all get together and discuss animation. Helping and learning from each other.
Here is a link to more info on the animators meeting:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=5869
Every Tuesday there is also a scriptors meeting where we do the same thing with scripting:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=5832
So these are just two examples of where we hang out weekly and "collaborate in 3d". You can also check out some of the other 3d spaces Caligari has set up HERE (http://www.caligari.com/Products/trueSpace/tS75/Brochure/truePlaces.asp?SubCate=S2forum). The links don't seem to log you into the spaces on clicking right now unfortunately. However, if you right click on the links and select "properties", you can view the portal address. Then in tS you can open the shared space window with the button in the bottom toolbar near the right side. Then you can paste the portal address in the top area, enter your username and password, and log in.
For instance the portal address to the space called "The Forum" is:
//tpportal.caligari.com/1109
So we can still log into shared spaces and collaborate with trueSpace. Hopefully a new version of truePlay will be out before long as well. Then we can share the experience with non 3d folks that don't want to learn the entire tS application just to visit with us in 3d space. :)

Hi saigoel.
Folks, correct me if I'm wrong but, with trueplay, you cannot actually Edit or Create items in shared space. With truespace, you can.
With trueplay, you can interact with the scene. I have not used trueplay in quite awhile; but I do believe you can Manipulate the scene and objects with trueplay (move them, rotate them, etc.). Objects can have properties and scripts associated with them such that they react to the user. How they react is up to the builder of the scene.
To cite just a few examples, Dele made some scripts for some objects which took advantage of 'triggers': as you approached an object, the trigger was 'set off', activating a script. Some objects would rotate, some would alter their transparency over a brief time period, giving a cool fade in / fade out effect, and another (a cart) would move; if you hopped in it, you went for a ride. :D
See you at the Animator's Club today!

Hi all,
Its not possible to release an updated truePlay until tS itself is finalized (since every change to tS means rebuilding tP). This is why no news on truePlay at this point.
truePlay doesnt let you create objects, unless there are scripts in there to let you create objects :) In other words, you can give the truePlay user as much or little functionality as you like, depending on what role they are undertaking. Someone stocking the shelves of a virtual store will need to "create" products to go on the shelf - just not by modeling them, but using tools uniquely created for that space. And so on.
So truePlay is more than just a static viewer or player. A scene could have a lot of interactivity in it indeed, even giving different people different amounts of control and abilities depending on their role.
We'll announce what is happening with truePlay when all is ready to be announced, and can't discuss plans or what ifs or whens until that time (just as we had to do with the release of tS7.6 itself).
HTH!

Well, they derive the player from the full program, so it makes sense it would arrive first. I wouldn't want to still be waiting on 7.6 so they could release together. I was worried for a moment that it would be discontinued with the full program being free, glad it's not.
Will we be able to make an exe to launch a player and scene? So that it would look like a game with custom hud and splash screen? I know there have been games made, but can they run stand alone (even if via the player)? |

A plug-in would be so sweet. I am working on a job that could totally use a scriptable 3D plugin...and I would get to play more with TS as well... |

I'd like some kind of publish to exe thing. I wouldn't mind a bit if it needed a player packed in, or even took the user to Caligari and forced them to download and register it. I just want to be able to pack a fully interactive scene into a single file with a custom splash screen and UI that the user can run but not modify, such as what Quest3D allows. Not doing this eventually would have to be a business rather than technical concern. |
