Is it possible to now receive 5 for free, now that 7.6 is being given away? I also saw a thread where it was said that it was included on a bonus disc of a 2006 issue of 3D Worl Magazine.

The reason I need tS 5 is that it will open my old files properly, whereas 7.6 and other apps (such as Deep Exploration) will not properly import/load my tS3 and tS4 data. So I need to open in tS5, and resave.

I've tried using Deep Exploration to open the scenes, but many of the scenes are missing geometry. It appears that the geometry is there, just hidden, but when DE opens it, the hidden geometry does not exist.

I have a bunch of older projects I'd like to revisit, for use in either tS or other apps, and would greatly appreciate being able to use tS5.

Hi Phlewp,

Unfortunately Caligari isn't supporting or distributing the older versions anymore. You may be able to buy an existing copy off of someone... Splinters would be the one to ask about the 3DWorld magazine issue.

Another way might be to ask one of the forum users have TS5 still installed to do the conversions for you.

Also worth trying is Ultimate Unwrap 3D, which has good COB support and can convert to a lot of different file types. It costs $60 and can be found here:

The model side of 7.6 is basically the old version 6.6. Won't that open your old files?

I am having similar difficulties opening anything pre6.6 in tS7; perspective views are reset (so don't match originals) and certain material settings are ignored. Deformations are reset (remember that bug in tS6?) and other problems so I feel your pain.,

Right then, tS4.3 was the last 'free' version (and an exclusive deal with 3D World) so that probably will struggle to open tS5 files.

I have it on good authority that tS4.3 for free was a limited one-off never to be repeated again and it has already been said that no other/earlier versions of tS will be released. Consider that the last word on that one...;)

So, can anyone help you with a copy of tS5 is the question. Sorry but I only have 1,2,3,4,6 and 7. I sort of missed tS5...;)

Make sure you have the bridge turned off, before you try to import the old ts files in the model view. Else it tries to make it in the workspace view at the same time, and chokes on it.

Once you have it in the model view, re-save as ts6 file, and then reload it and turn the bridge back on, if you want to work with it on the workspace side.

I have TS5 and would be prepared to have a go at converting files - as long as we're not talking 100s! Obviously, even then there's no guarantee it will read everything totally correctly - I'm pretty sure that TS5 wouldn't correctly convert everything from some of my TS4.3 scenes - I think the modelling came through ok, but lighting and textures were a bit unpredictable if I recall correctly.

I haven't had a chance to get the new downloads yet, but I guess I'm a little concerned that 7.6 won't open my 5.1 efforts very well... will have to wait and see on that one....
