There should be a standard built-in offline rednerer for TS 7.6. There are several renderers out there that are open source Yafray, Pixie, and Aqsis. This will at lease let users get good renders in the workspace side.

V-Ray is good, but some people can't afford the $300 to buy it.

Anyway I think there should be an alternative to V-Ray.

Off course you're right, it seems a bit strange.

However before Ts 8 comes around I'm willing to eat my hat if not the other built in engines are transfered over and alot of those you menthioned might be availible by plugins then.

This is the good thing with what they've just done letting the beast free ;)

better get another hat though easier to.

There are two built- in render engines on the model side, lightworks and virtualight.

There is also dribble, for about $35 available, which is quite a powerful render and a world class render engine.

trueSpace has 2 built in offline renderers, Lightworks and Virtualight. Both are very good, and Virtualight even offers GI, caustics etc. No need to pay $300 unless you want what V-Ray has to offer :)

HTH!

out of interest, I've been on the forums for a fair while now and although I've seen plenty of use of Lightworks and VRay, I've seen very little mention of Virtualight (which I presume was available in TS6.6 too?).

I don't recall seeing anyone actually showing any renders they'd produced this way - are you aware of anyone on the forum who has used it a reasonable amount and may be able to offer advice/tutorials?

I ask only because I'm used to Lightworks (albeit the older incarnation) and would like to be able to take advanatge of GI etc, but will not have the cash to get VRay anytime soon. I'm tempted by Dribble but don't much fancy all the aggravation in getting 3delight licenses sorted etc... (and would prefer a free option!)
