Did you know that in New Jersey there is a forest of pygmy trees that don't grow over 4 feet high?

The pitch pines seem to have adapted to the fires. Their seed cones open under tremendous heat, and the trees themselves send up new shoots from the base of their trunks. The forest fires actually rejuvenates the forest.

Of course their wood is used for short stories...;)

Ah Bob that's brilliant - true sidesplitting humour. Thanks for a good laugh.

Interesting discussion here - good to know the good ole US is planting more trees than it's cutting down although I understand this is something of a growing trend world wide (no pun intended).

New Zealand has both native forests and extensive pine plantations - the problems we have here are not caused by the pines themselves but by the fact they are planted in giant monoculture plantations. A half grown Pinus Radiata requires up to 40 gallons of water pre day and this means any stresams running through a pine plantation soon dry up. Then the trees are all cut down at the same time, the rain comes and there's suddenly no trees to absorb it all and we get flooding and uncontrollable erosion. It's hard to see this as a good thing!

Thus it's not so much how many trees you have as much as it is how well they are managed.

For me I have no need nor interest in printed manuals - they are expensive and clutter up my workspace. I have a dual monitor set up but as I have tS spread out over both monitors it makes no difference. All I do is use the Alt TAB keyboard shortcut which allows me to switch from one window to the other - in other words to bring the manual onscreen with a simple dual keystroke - can't do that with a paper manual! Can't 'search' a paper manual, can't download a paper manual.

Maybe we should never have gone to paper in the first place - no doubt some of us would prefer our software manuals carved onto clay tablets or painted on cave walls!:D:rolleyes:

Uh....then take it with you to the other room? ;)

Hmmm... I've always kept the two seperate. I read about a feature that seems cool and then try it out later. Once I have an idea of what it does I feel more comfortable playing around to get it to work. Only rarely have I ever hit a brick wall and had to dig out a manual while working. Used to take my manuals with me while my student friends studied over coffee. Maybe I should get an old laptop just to store my documentation on.

I don't have a problem with a manual printed on recycled paper. I'd be happy with documentaiton that only covered the changes, an addendum to cover the link editor and physics stuff that wasn't in the last version I really used. 95% of the manual usually stays the same anyway. I certainly don't need to see every shader and lighting option illustrated, though it's nice to casually show someone when the subject comes up. A person won't casually scroll through a 500 page pdf the way they will thumb through a book.

What I really want is the big poster showing all of the icons in their expanded state with their names beside them. Is that available for 7.6 yet in any form?

Different strokes for different folks I guess - I always avoid those big charts and instead train my brain to think about clusters of tools - all the hair tools or texture tools or whatever. Then all I need do when seeking a specific tool is to remember what group it's in and where to find that group.

If you've downloaded the pdf manual look in the folder you installed it to for the file 'QuickGuide.pdf'
It has most of the icons and panels with "colour glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was..."

I think that's sort of what you were looking for?
