Well, this issue arrived suprisingly early. Let's get the content out of the way before the burning question of that Roman Ormandy interview!!
Cover DVD : An exclusive 60 day trial of Softimage XSI7 (the newsest version with the ICE visual programming system), A high res facial model in various formats, Max figure and Poser assets, 7 hours of XSI training videos, Turbosuid models, 15 mocap moves, textures, reference images and all the tutorials from the mag.
Mag: 22 pages on recreating the human face as well as tips on facial morphs etc. A guide to outsourcing, the Crisi in games training, Win copies of 3DS MAX, a guide to using facial MOCAP data, and a few other bits and bobs including a review of a desktop 3D scanner costing £1248 which is apparently excellent (9/10).
Now for that Roman Ormandy interview.......... |

Okay, here goes:
First, it is worth noting that there is little in the interview that has not already been suggested or stated.
"trueSpace will be the primary authoring tool for MS's Virtual Earth Platform"....this is "the sole reason for making ts7.6 free"
Blah, blah, blah compares the acquisition of sketchup by Google but states that tS is a 'far more powerful product'.
However, Ormandy emphasises that there will continue to be more to trueSpace than Virtual Earth as it is a fantastic visualisation tool and a tool for independent videogames. "We are working closely with the Xbox people, they have 400,000 independent games developers who will benefit greatly"
Yadda, yadda..."We promised we would unbundle the old tS6 in version 8, so we are calling this 7.6"
"Ormandy is guarded about other new tools...but hints at enhancements for character animation..There will be a synergy, the strong character developments in tS will benefit VE"
blah, blah...
"Caligari's structure has not changed at all, so we continue to operate exactly as we were. We are tremendously excited that in VE we've found a home where these technologies can be valued. We hope to convince the market that this is the beginning of something significant for the internet"
A full review of tS7.6 is forthcoming along with video tutorials for the software.
So, nothing really new there...but a nice screen render by Parva and a lovely smiley picture of Roman clutching a suitcase full of cash.... |
