Is there a way to place components on the screen seperately, then position them and group them as an 'object group' or whatever it might be called?

Like if you had a head object, eye object, hair object, ears, etc. Then position them in place on the face, and specify that they were to act as one.

Does that make sense?

Thanks

Yes and yes..... why two answers? Because how you do it depends on whether you're working in the modeler or in the workspace.

The workspace is easiest. The full explanation is in Chapter 2, pg 103, of the manual:

1. Make sure your Link Editor is in 2D

2. Draw a box around the objects you want to group

3. Click on the Encapsulate Icon.

In the modeler you'd use the Glue tool. The full explanation is in Chapter 4, pg 4, of the manual:

1. Control-click to select the objects you want to group.

2. Click on the Glue Icon.

Wait a minute! Are you seriously suggesting that we actually read the manual? That's going too far.

"Never read any manuals or handbooks. Use trial and error. And if you fail for too long, ask for help" ?

Thanks, Heidi. Yes, it's workspace.

That's supposing that one knows what the item is called and where to look for it. Help isn't much help if you can't find the info.

No problem, Teamonkey. :)

Oh... that should read, in the Link Editor draw a box around the objects you want to group. :o

Sorry about that... I should have previewed my post more carefully.

Yes.

An index was made for the PDF documents.

MUCH nicer if everything was in HTML.

The documentation can be much better indexed and organized. I can tell you that! :)

Thanks for that. No need to say sorry. At least you give helpful, well thought out answers, unlike some! <cough!cough!> who shall remain nameless!

All very true. PDF's are fine for taking to a printer, but I too would rather have html pages for help.

Cheers

The easiest way in workspace to encapsulate/glue is to select all objects to be grouped one at a time while holding ctrl down then click then 'encapsulate in 3d' icon. It's easier than having to get your nodes all organized in the LE. ;)
use ctrl shift then click on an object to remove it from selection. :)

Thanks, Stan-any hint where I could bperhaps find that encapsulate icon?

Since the question of finding stuff in the manual was brought up....there are instructions for two different methods for doing a full search of the manual, as well as a link to an index in the tech faq here (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=73008&postcount=16).
