From what I gather Gamespace has gone the way of the Dodo bird. Just in the nick of time too as I was going to purchase it sometime in 2009. However, I think Truespace is a better overall product in terms of support. Truespace 7.6 rocks even better though, and I'd really love to see both an XSI importer/exporter become available at some point in the future. Ironically, of all the 3d modelers I've try working with only Caligari products make any real sense to me as a non-professional modeler; it's well designed and very very easy to learn. Keep up the fine work Caligari guys, and keep the user interface easy to use...BNG. |

Yes, gameSpace is redundant now - it was always trueSpace with non-gaming features removed to reduce the price. With 7.6 now free, just grab the full thing with all the features (and don't use the ones you don't need!).
I too hope to see more and more exporter and importers arrive over time to build bridges between tS and other apps and workflows.

The forums are still there, just closed. Not that there is much relevant in there since the toolset is tS6.6 based so quite out of date now. Best starting afresh in our new game thread here in the main forums!

We need all the Export formats that GameSpace had moved to TS7.6 so we can save out our models straight from TS without a model conversion tool. I love GameSpace and still use it, I can't believe more people didn't catch on to what it could do for them. :(
Always~

Export formats will be one for third party developers to pick up, there are so many possible formats out there! I'm already in touch with some of the big names in game engines to see what can be done there. For other formats then there is nothing to stop people developing them as soon as the SDK is out - just get in touch and let me know you want to be updated with news about the SDK!
Jack of course is already planning on a plug-in to cover FBX for example, so we can already look forward to more abilities in export and import with tS7.6 than gS had :)
Thanks!

Theoretically it should also support OBJ, Collada, 3DS, and DXF as well. Currently the DXF part is broken, but heh since they all come build into the FBX code, I'm not complaining.
Need to finish something up this week, but should be back working on the plugin next week. |

Why don't caligari just release gamepak for 7.6 users? Is there any reason why this can't happen, especially since you can't purchase it any more? This would pretty much turn modeler into gamespace, with the added benefit of workspace's modeling tools, and keep everyone happy. |

Several reasons make it impossible to release gamePak (not just a question of choice).
That siad, most of the formats there were out of date and in need of an overhaul anyway to be honest, and would only work with Model and not workspace, so all told there would be very little benefit for the user. Much better to have all new, up to the minute, fully tested formats that can work with workspace bones and animations :)

Because of all the problems the gS users were having with them due to them being old, out of date, not enough parameters, not compatible with this or that particular engine, etc :) They were in serious need of an overhaul. Combine that with working in workspace for good character animation compared to the old bones system, but none of those old formats would work with the new bones system, meaning that all the good stuff in tS7.6 would not be usable via those old formats, and you have two reasons why they would be of little use :)
Not that it would change the availability, they are unavailable for other reasons that also mean they need to be re-written from scratch. I was just letting you all know that when that happens, you will be much better off anyway than if the old ones were available, so you aren't really missing out.

I've already begun to make the transition from Gamespace to Truespace by copying most of my library folders to TS 7.6. I really love the TS 6.6 file integration for loading and saving my older Gamespace created files. I made a ton of X models in GS, and am so grateful that bringing them into TS 7.6 is really quite easy to do.
I also downloaded Virtual Earth the other day, and look forward to discovering it's potential. I'd also like to try some collaborative work with other TS users to explore the possibility of creating some models as part of a modeling team. I model for a game called, Battlezone II Combat Commander; it's a moddable game where other users create new expansion packs for the game and work together in the creation of things like combat vehicles, buildings, and other related visual props. I'm truly amazed by the number of mods that have already been released publicly, or are currently in development. BNG. |

Well, that .X export is Truespace's saving grace. That format is ubiquitous enough that you can use almost ANY conversion software to get models into the format you want. Paying $30 for Milkshape is not a big deal for most folks, and that'll get you all the conversion formats you could ask for. |

Also rememeber that you can copy your tsx plug-ins from gamespace to 7.6 modeler. Spinquad is still useful (I would love that in workspace), and the knife/ sword tools are nice too. |
