this won't be news to a lot of people but here goes:

1. name your objects before you start to copy them, it's no fun trying to find which cube out of the 132 you've got in the LE is the one you need to retexture or group!

2. group your objects acording to texture in the LE, help with repainting later on. It also helps to group by what needs SDS and what doesn't.

3. read the manual before you start! i'm just realizing that there is a lot more to 7.6 than 6.6 and i wasn't fully up to speed on that one either!

7.6 has material instancing which can help as well if you want to use the same material on a lot of objects and want to be able to update it for all those objects at once instead of one at a time.

oh don't you worry jack i'm using that on this one as well :D

all my model are being prepared so they have basic textures on them for when i set the scene up but when i come to render it i'll swap them for the real ones! 9another new thing i picked up on this project)

What I learned is that modeling is like eating .:p

You take one mouthfull and then another one and the again......

until your chubby looking and overweight.

I had to learn that you have to move some of your objects to a diet

otherwise your poly count will explode and no longer let you render.

I'm just tickled that I was able to choose a subject that helps people learn things! I've learned so much from doing the challenges and it is so nice to know people learned from the subject I chose.

Amen to that! I'm terrible for this kind of thing, I once built a 70MB scene by using multiple copies of a high poly object.... try to be a bit more careful these days but still regularly find rendering slow going....

At least your dieting worked on your castle scene, shame you ran in to computer problems.

Kena - no doubt you're (justifiably) pleased at the number of entrants, surely a record for the MMC. There's been a general improvment in activity on the SMC too for a few weeks so it looks like you chose a good time to host the challenge. Hope the momentum keeps up. Great subject.
