Yes, it's that time again - there will be another Thursday Night Live! tomorrow night, Thursday 21st August 2008.
See this page here, and click on the "Visit Now" button for it - this will open up tS and take you to log in to the shared space so you can join in the fun:
http://www.caligari.com/birdsofafeather.asp
The Birds of a Feather page there features a clock so you know the time for the meeting, 5pm on that clock and we are all gathering! The space is always open, not just open for the meeting, so you can log in early (or on any other day) if you want to just see who is around.
Last time was a lot of fun, we had a challenge to model a frog in 15 minutes for our two speed modelers, we had lots of Q&A from some new users, and a lot of general chat and humor.
We'll see you there!

Hahha nice new avatar 3DFrog! For those not in attendance, that was 3DFrog's 15 minute frog, which won the speed model challenge last time. The expression on that frog's face cracks me up every time :)
The challenge is just for fun, there's no pressure, no need to be some "uber modeler", just take part - it's a learning experience to try and model something in just 15 minutes, but mostly it's a good laugh all round.
As a note, I accept suggestions for what subject the participants have to model, so get your thinking caps on. What would be possible (but challenging) to model in just 15 minutes? You can post your entries here, email them to me, or best yet come along on the night to suggest them - the final subject is chosen by vote on the evening, so if you want your topic to be the one people have to model, do drop by and cast your vote (and watch the results!).
Thanks!

Oh my mistake, I thought for a moment it was his frog model, but you're right it's his passport photo I think ;)
You'll need to use tS7.6 to get in to TNL! (truePlay not currently available)

Tom G,
I try to show up when I can and always forget to ask this question...
Is there any limitations at these meetings on which tools can or cannot be used? For example:
Can Modeler tools be used?
or can the new "Cloth" be used from the workSpace side?
What tools should we avoid?
I know a couple changes are
Only use tS7.6 not earlier versions or truePlay.
No voice is currently supported.
Also for new user's thinking about going but afraid. You can show up and do nothing but observe if you want. There is no pressure at these meetings. So give it a try! |

No Modeler side tools should be used - the shared space is based on the new tech, and so the Modeler side (being old tech) could cause problems.
As far as I know all workspace tools are useable though. Not sure on cloth specifically, physics certainly runs fine so I don't foresee issues with cloth, but I could be wrong :)
Skeletons used to be a problem prior to tS7.6, but they should work fine in shared space now, so you can show your rigs and ask questions etc.
So "Modeler - Just Say No" is about the only rule for shared spaces.

Bob..
Model side tools can be used with the bridge in ON.. But.. by my experience i suggest use only Workspace side with Bridge in OFF.
There's no Trueplay version for 7.6 servers and yes.. Voice is not supported on this version. |

The website is currently down I see, apologies for the inconvenience. Here are instructions on how to get in without the web page link - meeting will be starting in just under an hour from the time of this post:
Fire up tS, and then click on the Shared Space icon. This will bring up the log in panel. In the URL bar in that panel (up top) enter //tpportal.caligari.com/1111
(you can cut and paste if you like). Then just enter your username and password, and click and log in!

Being in shared space was fun while it lasted. Just as the "model-off" was about to start I must have accidentally clicked on the easle, because I found myself apparently in the Scriptorium, and unable to find my way out. I restarted tS with the intention of logging back in, but was unable to get reconnected. Perhaps next time I'll be able to stay for the whole thing. :o
BTW: My name in shared space was JVGeier. I didn't know, when I first created my profile for the forums, that it was a good idea to register with the same name as with Caligari itself. Live & learn... |

I was there having a great time, many people were showing up, then all of a sudden a message stating "network failure".
Did Caligari do a reboot?
Did everyone continue with the challenge of a Pirate Ship? |

The server knocked 5 people off, and then we did do a reboot after that. I think you were kicked off during that server hiccup - folks who disconnected couldn't log back in (hence the reboot, which fixed that).
