Not sure where to put this but here goes.....

I'm looking to get a new mouse, a fancy one, not the £5 ones i normal buy from dabs (as good as they are at what they do). I want a good mouse to make my time on my PC at home more enjoyable and try and keep the dreaded RSI at bay.

Anyone got any suggestions? I'm thinking of it's impact on my using 3D programs mainly.

I am quite happy with my Microsoft Ergonomic mouse;

As a product designer I appreciate the importance of good ergonomics. It takes some getting used to (you hold it like you are shaking hands) but it reduces RSI. If you try and hold it like a normal mouse though it can become quite uncomfortable.

Then there is the Space navigator for 3d use, should get support once the SDK is out..:D

is that a wireless one? i've had bad experiences with them in the past, although they were cheap ones. I see what you mean about the odd shape.

If you can adjust to a trackball with 5 buttons, I like mine>> http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/CatImg/ProdImg/1/10/TO_l.jpg

Yes, that's the mouse I use too. It's amazing how good it still is after this long, I'm praying it doesn't break.

Good choices, but I have always been a fan of logitech, been using a MX500 for about 5 years now and it is the best mouse I have used so far.

Few points
1)The shape..
Not the most "brandnew~crazy~aerodynamic" mouses are the best mouses..

2)Your Hand
First Test all your choices and try to find one that fit perfect on your hand.

3)The color
A suggestion is choose dark colors, why? because bright colors tend to became yellow :(

4)How long you use a mouse?
If you work the whole day, and your hand start to hurt, you have 2 alternatives.. buy a good mouse pad with gel or your mouse is not maded for you..

Hope this tips helps! :)

Hi jayr, I am a big fan of the Logitech MX Revolution, very comfortable and
the scroll wheel is amazing. Have used it for more than a year sometimes18 -20 hrs/day.

The MSLP is high but can be found on sale for $50 - $70 CAN. where I live.

Specs can be found here:

Forgot to mention that I use the logitech Nano mouse for my laptop; it is the one with the tiny receiver that sticks out of the USB port by around 5mm so it is not easily broken. I love the scroll wheel on it. If you push it in it has a click feel but click it again and it has infinite scroll. Great for zooming in and out of scenes quickly-just flick the wheel then press down to apply the brakes!

No sure if the bigger versions has the same but it works very well...I do like a bigger mouse for desktop use though...:D

I use a Razer Diamondback mouse with the Razer Exactmat (http://www.razerzone.com) and a few of my marine buddies have the same setup. It survived all the dust in Iraq and has been a wonderful mouse for me with tS. My only complain would be that sometimes I forget how high I have the sensitivity set and I "throw" a face all the way across the screen during dynamic sweeps, or sometimes have trouble locking on to the right control of the object move widget. That's my fault since I'm too lazy to adjust the settings :p

Thanks for all the replies guys but now the die is cast, the choice is made....

In the end i went for a Razer Deathadder (who could resist that name!) looks comfortable, made for right handed use only, and nice and sensitive. Also got a Goliathus Alpha mouse mat for it. I'll let you know how thay work next week.
