Hi,
It's been a while since I last posted something, but I'm still enjoying trueSpace 5 (and still a beginner). Here's an image I made while exploring the general subject of eyes. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Linus |

Eyeballs definitely express some character there! Looks like you're well on the way! Might be fun to put some moldy spots forming on the surrounding 'good' apples or put worrisome eyeballs on them. Maybe put a few mold spores floating around in the air near the bad apple just for effect.
Kinda reminds me of those 3D commercials where germs move in where they're not wanted and have that ever so devious look to them :) |

Hey thanks Prof. K! I like all those ideas. I don't exactly work quickly, but I think I'll try to develop it a bit more in the coming days...
Let me add a word about the image for the benefit of anyone who may be newer to the trueSpace than I am:
The apple objects were made with the lathe, then I tried to deform them a little to make them less symmetrical. At first, I wanted to wrap an apple photo texture around the apple mesh, but I couldn't get it to look right. What's there now looks better at the moment: The texture has two layers: one is a green/red gradient (wrapped V stripe actually, made fuzzy), the other is a "cement" texture map, a pre-installed texture map. I'm still not happy with the stems, but I'm not sure what exactly to do with those.
Anyway, thanks a lot for the input -- that definitely gets me to thinking!
Best,

Well, the textures on the apples definitely turned out very well -- you did a great job there. As for the stems, something about the color of the rotten apple's stem would probably be appropriate, but a more grooved pattern than the mottled look. |

Woah! Food with attitude!!
Very cool idea - I like visual gags like this. Your good apples look almost too good! Perhaps a single leaf coming from one stem? |

Thanks Morgan and W!ZARD for your feedback. Well this isn't going to fool a botanist, but here's a leaf, at least. Do all apple leaves have serrated edges, like a saw? Isn't it funny how the central vein doesn't quite reach the apex? The leaf is still totally flat. But there must be an easy way to add some curvature...
Still tinkering with the stems, may have to twist one somehow. The bump maps don't seem to add much of a grooved or pitted feel.
You guys have given me some great ideas, so I want to get my objects organized a bit better and tackle the stuff that seems easiest or most promising. (ts5 has a nice system for organizing projects, scenes, objects, etc. If I use it, it does make work easier.)
Maybe I can get some different expressions from some more eyeballs and rehearse how I cut the eye opening from the sphere -- sometimes I forget which buttons I pushed to reach a certain point!
Thanks,
Linus |

Well at least you've got me learning the program -- decals, etc. More and better to come, I hope (I mean by end of month :-)
