E-on are running a new promotion 50% off Vue 6 easel/ esprit/ pro studio.

One look at wizards pics will show you how well it can work with truespace.

Finally took the plunge and bought it myself!

i dont want to miss the chance again

And which one should one get? Esprit or pro is the extra $ 100 worth-it?

Is the render output as good as v-ray?

Speed ? \ quality ?

Thanks for any help

On disk versions are the same price as downloads + postage of course but that is still better than previous versions. Wonder how far away version 7 is?

It's probably better for me to just point you at this, it is a comparison chart of the different programs. Pro version is the same a Espirit except it has all of the plugins.

I do not know if things have changed and I am sure they will, there was speculation at siggraf that it might be out by the end of the year... nothing official though.

It's a really fun program to play around with, hopefully the new version can give far more control over the sky and water that the present version has. Those 2 are the biggest killer for me, I really enjoy animating as much of the program as I can.

only just finished the download but i'll answer as i can:

Sale is till 21st of this month.

With pro you get the extra modules (ecosystem, lighttune, botanica), they cost about $130 on their own. they do give it a lot more functionality but i haven't had time to explore it all yet so you'll have to decide this one for yourself, sorry.

render output is fantastic but is geared up for 'outdoor' scenes, although i'm sure you'd be able to set up indoor renders.

A word of warning, the program is closely linked to the Cornucopia Content site. Some of the built in libraries have models and materials that you don't own, they take you to the site to buy them! kind of like in program advertising. A bit cheecy if you ask me...

That is something I am not overly fond of either... I will say though that most of the things I purchased were very reasonably priced and of good to excellent quality... Your mileage may vary.

(mostly plants, trees, grass flowers and stuff, no need to purchase the other models, I can make them in TS and export them over easy enough.

If you can swing the extra cash for the Pro Studio pack I suspect you will not be disappointed. This will give you the ability to control your scenes more effectively and edit your plants to great effect. The ecosystems and Botannica modules are worth the extra expenditure in my estimation.

@ Spacman:Is the render output as good as v-ray?

Speed ? \ quality ?. I don't have Vray to make direct comparisons however the quality is very high and includes a range of rendering lighting solutions like GI and so on.

Render speed depends on the scene, the types and amount of texturing and the lighting solution used. Vue does have the option to interrupt and resume renders (both hi res stills and animations) which is very handy. I do the majority of my hi res and animated renders overnight while I'm sleeping. A recent animation I made used lots of clouds and slow to render lighting - the anim took 36 hours to render, I just set the render up before going to bed and interrupted it when I got back to my PC. Then resumed it again the following few nights.

@ Burnart; "Wonder how far away version 7 is?". They were demonstrating 7 at Siggraph so it theoretically is not too far away. 6 is very useful though so I probably won't upgrade to 7 straight away - they often have special half-price upgrade deals and so on so it's usually worth waiting for those before upgrading anyway.

@ jayr; "A word of warning, the program is closely linked to the Cornucopia Content site. Some of the built in libraries have models and materials that you don't own, they take you to the site to buy them! kind of like in program advertising. A bit cheecy if you ask me..." Yeah, a lot of people just use pre made commercially available content in Vue so this is probably useful for them. For those of us who like to create our own models you can switch off (or simply delete) the library items that link to stuff you must buy.

It's probably worth spending a little more eventually to get some other plant species which you can then modify to your hearts content - this will give you the greatest degree of control over your plants and ecosystems.

Finally, trueSpace and Vue play together very successfully - Caligari have a free course available that gives some good pointers on how to use the two programs together (though the guy who made the course has a funny accent ;))

yeah Wizard, it doesn't cripple the program or anything but it's just the fact that it show stuff in the library that you don't own, kind of annoying.
the renders are superb though and that's what counts in the end

HEY! Whats wrong with South African accents! ;)

I just bought Vue 6 Easel at a 60% off sale last month and would love to upgrade to Esprit or Pro but its too soon and my budgets needs to get back on its feet first :( So I'll wait for the next special, maybe when 7 is released... would LOVE to get my hands on the Ecosystem and Plant tools :D

I've just been playing with the eco system tools, they're really good, makes mountains covered in trees in a few seconds.
Tried importing a terrain object too (as per wizards tutorial), works fine, texture comes over ok too. just a pity it can't export plants or camera info, you need infinate for that

Yes and it's a BIG price jump up to infinite!

You can however export terrains and the associated image files from Vue which can be very useful in tS.

I'd be in heaven if tS could do the variable object instancing that Vue does with it's ecosystems. I love the idea of walking around virtual Vue type forests in real time First Person mode.......

I think to update from Pro 6 is about £130-150. A bit more than i can afford right now, maybe next year after 7 comes out and if i can justify it! :D

Loving the renders i'm getting from this one though, it reminds me of when i first got a version of bryce about 10 years ago, it felt amazing to be able to produce scenery so quickly.

It's capable of exquisite renders and I found the UI way more friendly than Bryces - specially when it comes to the Material editor.

I have often used Vue materials on a plane or cube and rendered them for Texture images in tS - and the other way round too!
