Is it worth creating an account to see?

Is it worth creating an account to see?

It's worth creating an account as Renderosity is one of the best known 3d gallery sites around and also has a few useful trueSpace resources. The tS community there is not as active as it used to be but it's worth taking a browse through the trueSpace Galleries as well as those for other apps. Lot's of good artistic inspiration there.

Is it worth joining just to see this picture - no!

It's a very simple night photograph of mostly black sky with a small curved NURBS object and some lights intended to look like a UFO. I'ts made by someone who has only posted 4 other pix and is clearly a newcomer - he's using tS 4.3.

He's got a long way to go but hey, maybe Steinie is right - one day this guy might become a trueSpace Ambassador if he's given enough encouragement.

Personally, what I find embarrassing is not that this picture is very simplistic and is not exactly a stunning advertisement for tS - it's that with the exception of Steinie and myself and the occasional other, almost no-one from here posts there - at Renderosity.

Anyone taking a quick look at Rendo's tS gallery would probably come away with a lot of misconceptions as to what tS is all about.

AFAIK Renderosity is THE largest online 3d artist community. It's heavily oriented toward the usual Poser stuff but also once had a pretty nice little trueSpace community happening there. There is also a good stash of tS related Freebees there too.

What really embarrasses me is that more people from here - and more tS users in general, don't post their work there to show case themselves as well as tS. I've had at least half a dozen job offers from posting there so there's nothing to loose.

The pic that Stienie linked too might not be the greatest piece of tS art but hey, at least the guy is trying.

Wizard,
"Anyone taking a quick look at Rendo's tS gallery would probably come away with a lot of misconceptions as to what tS is all about."

Yes that is my point. I always judge what a software package can do by looking in the Gallery. The experienced tS user is just not gettinig enough artwork out there for others to see. We will always be secondary until we change perceptions. Right now our 3D software is being represented by four glowing dots against a photograph of a mostly black night scene. Have we hit rock bottom?

You decide if trueSpace is for you after seeing these four dots...:o
(If you stare at them long enough you start to see the words "Lightwave"...

In the guy's defence, he wasn't trying to create the image for the purpose of showing off truespace, he was just trying to make his own fake ufo photo for fun. I don't think this is bad mojo for truespace, he could have easily used lightwave or any other application. :)

They must have changed their policies at Renderosity so that you now have to be a member to view their stuff. Not worth it. I don't get off viewing Poser babes and the trueSpace gallery quality is kaput.

Transient is right that the guy was just experimenting with light in this rendering. I wouldn't have taken notice to it if the other works next to it were worth looking at.

yes Renderosity trueSpace section is really kaputt (funny a german word found it into english slang :D). I can't even find a direct access link to truespace anymore

hehe, yeah the picture is really... strange ^^

compared to that I try for another picture a ghost shoot in infrared.

Sounds simple but I hadn't got the right purple glow the real ghost footage has.

simple things can be sooo difficult :D

Ah OK. Now I understand. Thanks Wizard for explaining it. I see your point now Steinie.

Well, it sounds like we need to rally and encourage folks to post in the Renderosity forums then. :)

There seems to have been quite a few recently. Perhaps SMC and MMC winners should add theirs in too. Some of the images are actually quite good.

Ok, so, 3ds will have loads more but I reckon that will change soon.

I think I would ramp that up a bit BrotherX

In my view the Castle contest was full of some really great examples of the level of quality work that Ts can produce in the right artistic hands!

Agree would be nice to see winners work shown more widely, great idea.

As I don't have my own website I use my Renderosity Gallery to show my work. Because I work with Vue quite a lot I can show both my tS and my Vue (and combined ) renders there - at no cost. Members can leave remarks. Uploading your own stuff is easy.

Membership is painless - they send you a regular newsletter which I generally ignore as it's mostly about Poser content for sale (which you can probably opt out of). For anyone wanting to make some pocket money you can try selling (or just giving away) your own models there too - they have all the necessary vendor software set up.

Some of the best 3d artists in the world post their work at Renderosity - you can add them to your favourite artists list and receive an emailed link directly to any new works they post. This is a very handy feature IMO - it means you resally only receive what you want to receive.

It's worth just browsing through the various galleries just to generate ideas for your own work.

I don't know guys, I have seen some nice things over there for sure... but you have to wade thru a bunch of... junk to get to it. Give me a site like CGTalk any day. I am a member of Renderosity, for a few years now, I just don't participate there. I had even forgotten I had an account their till about a month ago, I took a visit, looked around and thought despite the new look and interface, it is the same old place... Too many other forums to visit that I can get good information and ideas from to spend time over their... I am sure others will have different opinions and I respect that, I did get some good info out of it early in my 3D endeavors.
