So not a few weeks after Gustav, where here we just ended up with a bit of rain, now we have Ike.

Ike is projected to come more directly over the top of me, and is again projected as tropical storm / just dropping out of Cat 1 when it gets here. So once again, there is a fair chance I will be without power / internet for quite a few days (in the country, so high winds and lots of trees mean we are first to lose power, and last to get it back after they fix lines serving more people than these rural ones!).

Of course projectionss may be wrong again, can but hope and pray on that one. But if I vanish for a few days or you don't get replies when expected, then you'll know why!

HTH!

Whoops I see the e in hurricane in the title already blew away :)

Thanks Paul! I am far inland so am much luckier than what those coastal and more south will face, best wishes and prayers for them too. Not much to be done about it now other than wait and see how it turns out.

Thanks!

Tom

Yeah, Ike looks like a HUGE storm. I think I heard it's like 700 miles wide. Sheesh! I suspect you will get some bad weather from this one Tom. Stay safe.

I hope that there is not too much damage and that everyone down there on the coast stays safe.

Well, the last storm moved to a different course and lost more strength than expected. This one however has centered its course over where we are here, and has kept its strength, now looking more likely to be a category 1 still when it gets here.

So it is looking like I may see some days without power. I'll see everyone on my return if so!

I got into the office this morning and noticed that a couple of people were here that was supposed to be travelling to houston today...

Turns out our office there had all its windows blown in and is without power. We don't know much more than that...

I reckon with so much of houston without Power that Tom might be out of it for a while.

Tom - hope you're ok...

Long way away from Houston (some 4 and a half hours drive), but still got enough of a hit here that I've been without power from 3pm Saturday to 3pm Wednesday.

Fortunately no injuries or real property damage, though it was close. We have some old emu pens on the land, just sheds of wood and corrugated iron, and while not the world's most mighty structures, they have stood just fine for 17 years. Anyway, I watched one get physically torn out of the ground, and blown flat.

We wanted rid of it anyway, so that is handy :) But it shows that weather has changed - this sort of storm at this sort of strength is pretty much unheard of up here (or at least during the last 17 years anyway, using the sheds as a measure!).

We retreated to town, to my wife's grandma's, so at least we had power (but no internet). Lots of trees down that we saw on the way.

However, back now!

Thanks!

Tom
