I was wondering if I can navagate the viewport using hot keys...like you can in Hexagon.
I had a car accident a few years ago(broke both hands) and navagating with keys is easer than using mouse curses on widgets.
Cam movments would be like...
Arrow up=tilt up
arrow down=tilt down
arrow left=rotate left
arrow right=rotate right
alt or ctrl arrow left, right, up, down=pans left, right, up, down.
Hope that's clear?
Can this be set up by hot keys or use a python script?
Have no clue...help.
Thanks |

There's first person navigation mode in the workspace. R click for the options panel. |

I assume that this will not work on the model(6.6) side?
New to v7.6
I could never figure out how to do this with v6.6.:(
I thank you for your help and reply |

So, can I take this lack of responce to mean that truespace can not allow me to navagate the way I would like to?
I have read the manual 3 times...but find no clue to this type of setup.
This would be great for anyone whom has trouble mousing for long periods of time. |

As far as I know, there's no provision in Model/6.6 side for keyboard navigation.
You can hotkey the functions (eye move, rotate, zoom, etc), but it will still require mousing to operate. This way, you won't have to try and hit the widget, just hit the hotkey and drag in an empty part of the scene.
Would be nice tho, to have a 'nudge' view keyboard function. |

That's what I was afraid of...I have been trying to figure this out for quite sometime now since I gave up on Hexagon.
I wish I knew Python...maybe I could figure out a script to navagate this way in TS.
I'm sure that this would be helpful to others that have limited mobility.
I guess if all was moved to the Workspace side, I would be all set.
I just wanted to see that I have exhusted all possabilities on this set up.
Thanks for the responce. |

Here is a Camera Navigator and Camera. These are saved as Workspace objects but work in Model. So load these from Workspace into the Link Editor. Switch to Model and select the Camera, then View from Object. Activate the Camera Navigator and use the Keyboard keys to manipulate the Camera. You can adjust the SPEED of the Timer, 2 is Maximum speed and any number higher is slower up to 1500. |

Thanks trueBlue for your help.
If you created this...then a specal thanks...all this link editor stuff is new to me.
I'll get some time later to give this a try...got to get a job out the door today.
Quick question...can I change the keys used or as they say, are etched in stone?
Thanks so much again. |

You can change the Keys in the script. Question is what keys to you want and if so does it interfere with Model's and or Workspace's Shortcuts? I originaly made this for Workspace and so this version I had to Unencapsulate everything because Model could not see the Camera. I did notice with this version if the Camera or Script is not selected and selecting the L key the Lights control panel came up. |

Hi trueBlue,
Sorry for getting back here late...had to get a job out at 6:00pm...last minuet rush job.
Maybe I should describe a little bit better than I have.
Lets say we have a cube in a scene...perspective view.
It would work this way...
Press arrow key up or down, and the view rotates(TS=eye rotate, x axis only) in the x axis, around the cube.
Press arrow key left or right, and the view rotates(TS=eye rotate, y axis only) in the y axis , around the cube.
Press alt or ctrl up/down arrow key, and the view Pans up or down.
Press alt or crtl left/right arrow key, and the view Pans left or right.
The main reason for this particular setup I wanted, is it's ease of use with the arrow keys being in there own space on the keyboard...no hitting other keys very close by.
I got to the point were I could navagate in hex like I was "walking around the object" like in a game, using the arrow keys/ctrl or alt, with ease.
I really appreciate all the work you have done on this...thank you so much.

I took a better look at this Camera Navigator that I uploaded earlier and as said it was originaly created for Workspace and I quickly modified for you. I discovered a problem with it and it is not right. So I fixed it and you should try this other version. You may notice that even this version where rotation gets stuck at 180 degrees. You can fanagle it to work by pressing both keys at the same time and then releasing one or the other. The Workspace version does not have this problem. However what you are asking for with regards to rotating around an object I will not be able to do. When you apply the Look At tool from the Camera to the Object you have to traverse the X and Y at the same time, try it and see with this version. Model and Workspace have two different coordinate systems. If you want to try the Workspace version it is located here?:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=21963&postcount=1
The Workspace version has the same problem when the Camera is constrained to an Object with the Look At tool.
Sorry! |

No need to apologize trueBlue...you got a whole lot further than I could get to.
In hex, it also stops at 180 also on the x axis rotation, but not the y axis rotation.
I will give this a try today and hopefully soon I'll see if I can get a handle on this link editor and maybe solve any issues myself.
Maybe in the future this could be done with a plugin?
I wonder why there is 2 different coordinate systems with respect to the both sides?
I really appreciate all the work you and johny have done on this...you senior members really know your trueSpace! Makes it really nice to come here and get real support. |
