Coming out this month is a new generation of dslrs that

have high definition video function (1080p).

They are compatible with the whole range of interchangeable

still foto lenses and have extremly good low light capabilities.

they are reported to show the same quality at low light that video

cameras 50 times more expensive have.

If you read Laforet´s blog you will note that the quality is said

to be superior to the RED camera !

That would be a revolution to HD video !

Delivery sometime in November say all of the websites I have been trying to place an order with. It will be interesting to have HD capabilities in a 35mm FF sensor though, I think Canon hit a home run with this camera, the old 5D is a great camera (still).

Live View

In camera sensor cleaning

21 megapixels

low noise

High ISO

1Ds image sensor

A portrait and landscape photographer's dream.

Now we have to keep buggin Caligari about getting camera projection and mapping in TS.

Thanks for bringing this up.

Your welcome Rich !

This is a revolution to HD video and its not going to stop

with this one Canon camera!

This is more then broadcast quality !

This hits theatrical quality ! I guess we will see some of this

as a lightweight alternative for stunts in movies !

If you ad up $1300 for a digital camera and $ 1300 for a video camera

your already over the price tag !

The next few years I guess we will see all photo cameras go that way !

Jeez Pete, ya think you could be alittle bit more excited! :D

I am hearing things about the camera that will make it a very popular camera for many. I am still on the fence whether I will be getting it ASAP or next tax season when I will probably more disposable income. I have a 40D and a 5D now, so I can get by just fine with what I am using till than :) I am really curious how my lens will look shooting HD video though :jumpy:

Hopefully Caligari finally gets the picture on video and allowing us to get them incorporated into our animations without jumping thru hoops. (all the other 3D companies have figured it out by now :) )

All I have to say is...

WOW!

I would love this camera. For the specs it has, it is an amazing deal. Time to start saving my money. :D

Wonder if Caligari can up their monthly animation content contest? 15mb seems rather low nowdays. 30mb 60mb ;). Pretty please for HD content type animations?

Noko this will be a boost to 3d and 3d content too !

I guess we will see even more democratisation of broadcast with

HD quality to everyone....

I guess this will be a boost to future development of youtube (going HD)

too !:)

Unfortunately it's encoded in H.264 MOV format which badly limits the editing ability of the footage. As for being superior to RED; nice marketing claim but it's extremely doubtful if you compare the specs (it can beat a 4520x2540 image with a dedicated RGB CODEC?).

Limits it in what way, all of the editors that I am aware of support that format, the specs allow for more information than HDV format. I do agree that saying it is better than Red is inaccurate though (made by Vincent LAforet in the thread PEte linked to), but stuff like that gets blown out of context all of the time. I think the original post was trying to emphasis the camera would be easier to use because of it's size and weight thereby making it better than the Red camera for quick and light shooting.

I have talked to several people on the video that we have seen posted, they work in the VFX industry, right now the verdict is not out on the quality, one guy thinks it might be possible to do dedicated tracking and green scene work but would like to see the video on a scope, others are less sure right now. None are thrilled with the 30FPS though... Still you can not disqualify what Canon is doing here, this camera has the potential of pushing everyone else in the industry to make the same (and better features) available in their cameras. Nikons own first attempt the D90 is not looking to be much of a serious contender, manual focus, no aperature adjustment when shooting, rolling shutter situation and a more compressed and smaller bitrate...

Nice camera if you ask me, I've seriously debated putting in an order for it since I first read the spec's and each report from beta tester's does not make it any easier :) take a look at these videos http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/eos5dm2/02.html

H.264 is primarily a delivery and archive format unless Canon is using one of the Intra profiles for their CODEC - which I doubt. As such it wouldn't be the first choice for acquisition to edit.

I'd side with your friend who'd like to see some of the video on a scope - it might look fine out of the camera, but may not be ideal for editing and post work as HD is very revealing of any problems.

I agree it's a nice first step for a camera manufacturer to make and it will be interesting to see how the others respond and where it may lead in a couple of years.

That was what this heads up was all about.......

Not realy seeing this model as the ultimate final everything !

The development is just going to change what we all will be seeing

on video !

The most important fact will be that there will be millions of HD cameras

around world wide and nothing will be safe of being captured on HD !
