Here's my contribution to the glut of CG car models in the world.....

Modeled in TS6, rendered in TS7 (Vray). ANY C&C is appreciated!

I'm not familiar with British vehicles and I'll assume this is not a Mini Cooper. (based on the exposed hinges). The tires look a little too smooth and where is the radio antenna? I would also play with reflections on the paint job.

Everything else is great. Is this your car?....Oh yea I give up what kind is it?

That looks nice. I agree the tires need some traction! Maybe the car has sat radio and he took the old antenna off! I whish I could model like that. I can't figure out how to get thoes soooth surfaces.

Mostly looks pretty good - defintely a bit of an issue with the wheels. To me it lokos like you've got black wheel arches, but this is a bit visually confusing and it's hard to see where the arches end and tires begin. The tires definitely look too shiny and need to be more matt, ideally some tread/texture and could probably be lightened to a dark grey?

The geometry looks great - unmistakably Mini. Would be nice to make the windows transparent and add some interior detail, but obviously that adds an awful lot of work...

While the Mini Cooper made it big in the States lately, the Mini actually first came out way back in the 70s or so. This to me looks like one of those original Minis and not one of the sleeker looking new ones, and that would explain the large hinges, and other design features.

I think it's a cool model! The tires are the only issue right enough, and I would brighten things up overall just a little. I think the paintwork actually matches how I remember the minis looking back in the 70s when paint wasnt usually as shiny and metallic as it is these days.

More renders of this one would be welcome :)

Thanks!

Tom

It's not that young Tom! The Mini actually came out in 1959.

Model looks great, few minor tweaks and additions and it'll be spot on.

Woah, older than I thought! I just remember my aunt having one when I was a wee lad. The thing I remember most was the display inside, it had some plastic crystal lights on it or something - they were faceted you see - anyway, it looked odd... now I'll have to search for Mini interiors and dashboards to see if I can find what I remember for way back.

So, I always associate the Mini with the 70s as a result, had no idea it was so long in the tooth! Just shows that classic design has staying power :)

Thanks!

Tom

Tom,

I didn't spot any interior pictures at the wiki posted (but I didn't try more than a couple of the many links), but, regarding the dash, I did noticed this:

"The Mini Clubman and 1275GT were responsible for two motoring "firsts". They were the first vehicles to use a flexi printed-circuit board behind the dash instruments (universal nowadays, but technically advanced for 1969)."

IIRC the earliest minis had one single big round dial right in the middle of the dash board - exactly the same arrangement as in the earlier Morris Minor and Morris 1000.

The round dial had the speedo across the top, an odometer just below the centre and a temperature gauge and petrol guage to left and right (at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions respectively).

It also had an oil pressure light and a battery charge light (both red) and a high beam indicator light(blue) that were indeed as Tom recalls. Made of plastic thay were shaped like cut gemstones.

I took my first driving lessons in a Morris Mini Minor.

This is a good model of one - apart from the tyres as mentioned. I'd like to see this with transparent glass and some internal details though.

Good work.

Hello everyone! I'm amazed at the response to this post. I appeciate all your constructive crits and comments. I had no idea that there were so many Mini fans out there. I'll get some of your suggetions incorporated and post again soon. Sorry for being so tardy in responding. My daily responsibilities normally allow me little time to devote to CG. (The weather here has been pretty awful, so I may have some spare time in the next couple of days.) Thanks again for your help and encouragement!

Thanks for the wheel, Visu! Modeling tire tread is ongoing struggle for me. I have a 1959 Cooper Formula 1 project that has been going nowhere for that exact reason.

Here are some updates on the Mini using several previous suggestions. Hope this is an improvement. :)

Original Minis probably didn't have that high a reflective value in the paint IIRC but maybe you just had it Turtle Waxed?

How about the traditiopnal Union Jack painted on the roof or is that too tacky?

First off the car looks great!

Second thought, how about putting a little avatar of Roman in there driving. Enter it in our Avatar thread and title it "Mini Me":)

After some material adjustments and lighting changes I think I'm closer to one of the later "wet look" paint jobs. Had to soften the shadows to keep the whole thing from being to jarring to look at. I remember the Union Jack on Minis back in the day when I was mis-spending my youth. (Can't remember if it was a British or American fad.) Thought I'd try it in any event.

Beautiful! That brings a nostalgic tear to my eye! I don't know where the Union jack thing comes from - I don't know if the modern mag wheels you have really go with the traditional paint job but either way you've done a lovely job.
