In a bit of a rush just now but I will post later the actual details. Suffice to say that the entire issue is devoted to materials so Poser users are in for a treat with the freebies on the disc.

Nothing else really stands out except for...mmmm...a review of tS7.6 courtesty of our very own Jack Edwards.

No score as it is free (shame, I would have liked to see how it fared; better than the 7/10 tS7 got.)

More later...

Upon closer inspection the materials are quite useful and there are many items of clothing in 3DS format I could use.

Big feature on Little Big Planet as well as how to set up a 3D studio. Without closer inspection nothing else really stands out and, to be honest, the tS7.6 review reads more like one of those 'advertorials' where a company pay for a feature that looks like an unbiased review (3d World do this a lot as do many Future magazines). Sorry Jack, you do point out negatives but the 'cost' makes it harder to review as if it were to inform a user whether they should part with cash.

Maybe I need to re-read it...;)

Plus you failed to mention the lovely UI so I am very upset....;)

Thanks Splinters, appreciate the feedback. So much new stuff in the 7.6 release that it was hard to fit in just the info on new features. With the fixes and price point it's clearly a must have upgrade for existing users so not really much to say there anyway lol. ;) And much of my planned contrasting and value opinion stuff related to other applications had to go because of the word limit, but hey we did get a 2-page spread.

BTW, if you're wondering about a score, I was planning to give TS 7.6 a 9/10. The new price/value is a really big deal (caught me totally by surprise!), but Blender's still got us beat on some things. If Caligari can work out issues with the materials workflow, inset scaling, particles, max polygon limitation (2GB memory issue), slow performance editing high poly scenes, some general wackiness with D3D transparency and normals, improve the SDS tools, etc., then I think at it's current price point TS could become a 10/10 application. In anycase 7.6 is hugely improved over 7.5, which rightfully deserved the lower score especially considering the number of critical bugs at the time and XSI Foundation as direct competition.

Couldn't mention the UI since it wasn't changed in 7.6 - LOL sorry Splinters. ;) Maybe you can design us a cool new sleek fast intuitive artist driven UI for 8.0? :D

(Or at least cooler looking widgets... why do we have to play with tinker toys? :p)

The changes were indeed, very subtle...:D

As for widgets, alas, nothing to do with me and I do have ideas for the next UI but my job is now complete as far as I am aware. Still, you never know eh?

It sould be quite easy for me to...ahem, scan those pages in and post them but I think I may breach certain copyright rules...

It will take about 4 to 6 weeks for this issue to show on US shores :) Or at least it does down here in TX, or at least the part of it I am in.

HTH!

I have to say that the issue is not that impressive unless you are a poser user or particularly obsessed with modelling materials/fabrics in maya etc.

The 'highlight' for us is the tS7.6 review.

I would not buy it if I did not subscribe as I only pay about £3 per issue. Some issues are great...this is quite ordinary. Still, your choice!!
