Hello everyone! It’s been a bit of a while now, but I have decided to revive and resurrect this project. It is the story of a young and heroic jedi in training...who is supposedly our last hope for survival.
Prepare yourselves...it’s the incredible Star Wars Kid!!!
Many of you may be bursting with laughter by this point of time, but for those of you who aren’t, allow me to enlighten you on somewhat recent events.
In 2002, a young man named Ghyslain Raza recorded a video of himself pretending to be the Star Wars character, Darth Maul, using nothing but a golf ball retriever. The video was left alone in somebody’s basement for several months, until the owner discovered its hidden content.
The video was then shared by this mysterious person to several friends, who, in turn, decided to upload the clip to the internet using the Kazaa P2P network.
By 2003, it had been viewed by thousands of users across the net, and became a phenomenon. Over the next 2 years, people scattered over the globe began to make adaptations of the video, adding music, sound effects, and visual effects.
Today, The Star Wars Kid is known in many places, though the creation of the video adaptations have calmed down to a point.
On that note, I will state that my goal is to create my own adaptation, though in a different manner.
Here are the rules during the course of my project:
* My video must never scorn Ghyslain to gain humor. This must be done by other means.
* All copyrighted material must have full credits, and I must use as little of it as possible.
* All special effects must be to the best of my abilities.
* I must have approval from at least 10 users before considering this a finished project.
So there you have it. If anyone has any questions or comments, feel free to be honest and share them, as I want this to be up to everyone’s agreement.
ThanX.
PS: I will attach links to video files when I’m ready. The file size restrictions are a bit frustrating, and I want everyone to experience the full glory of what these clips can be. |

Maybe it's where I am located (firewall or missing Codec) but I couldn't view your video. Others there worked fine. |

It's a DVD quality MPEG 2 video, with a 720 x 480 resolution. This IS Putfile that I'm using, so it's probably been re-encoded to a wmv file. I'll try it with a different format, give me a minute. |

First, you fixed my problem, thanks.
Second, after watching this I am confused on the intent. The Star Wars Kid was a kid doing a parody or reenactment of the movie. Is this a spoof of the Kid doing a spoof?
Third, the opening Title looks great, the black text on the right didn't stand out.
Fourth, The stars are going in instead of out, intentional?
Fifth, DISCO MUSIC? Where's the bathroom....
What is being done with TS in this movie?
Have fun! |

After your done reading it, you may not like my idea as much, but remember my 1st rule and 4th rules:
*My video must never scorn Ghyslain to gain humor. This must be done by other means.
*I must have approval from at least 10 users before considering this a finished project. |

When Ghyslain made the original movie, it was not a spoof - (attempted) reencactment is closer to the mark. The video was never meant for circulation and was purely a kid mucking around. The widespread distribution/parodies etc have left him pretty distressed, I believe there's been a lawsuit, etc, etc (should all be covered in that wiki link).
However your question is still pretty valid - I don't (yet) see how you can do anything about the SWK that doesn't parody Ghyslain further - either by re-using other people's content or making up more of your own.
With no offence meant to 2much4U, we haven't actually seen any real 'content' yet - just menus/opening sequences, etc, so it's difficult to know what is intended. Those sequences are all nice, although I don't know how much TS has been used so far, but don't get us past the introduction, if you see what I mean.
I will be interested to see how it develops as there are some great SWK movies out there and - depsite rule 1 - I stil enjoy many of them. |

Yeah, there was a lawsuit that he (and his family?) sued and won against the ones who initially put it out on the web if I remember correctly. I would tread lightly when messing with this material, and by no means try to sell or publish the DVDs you are making without rights or permission (though you already have a little by putting it on the web).
Re-reading what you put above:
*My video must never scorn Ghyslain to gain humor. This must be done by other means.
Not to rain on your parade, but technically, by putting a clip of him in the DVD menu or video, you have already done that.
The DVD menus look great by the way.

I admit I laughed the first time I saw the SWK video. Still, the novelty has worn off a bit and I'm thinking I'd be no worse off in life if I hadn't seen it. You may not have bad intentions and for all practical purposes the damage has already been done in the case of the "Star Wars Kid" himself. Taste in subject matter is always... well... "subjective"? I wouldn't do it but that's just me.
That being said, here's the feedback I'd have on the composition.
The titles were well done. Not sure I like the "long time ago..." repeating the way it did and "the Star Wars Kid" phrase on the menu page is too dark. Disco = cheese which may be the result you're looking for. |

* Disco music does make it cheesy, and that is what I have in mind.
* The SWK label on the menu is actually much brighter than it looks. Must be a problem with the encoder I used.
* The "jumping text" in the actual video has been a bit of an issue for a while now. A lot of people on the net don't like it, but many of my friends and family members think it's funny. You know what? I'll start a poll. Should the "Long Time Ago" stay in place or dance to the beat? |
