I heard a podcast last night from Brad Peebler (ceo of Luxology, Modo), he was saying Avid (the owner of SoftImage) had a fire sale and was selling Soft Image for something like 35 million. AD bought them up to keep someone like Doudosa (? never heard of them), or Adobe from purchasing them... in the end it does not matter.

!!!

Rich ! its not Doudosa ! Its Dassault he was talking about !

The makers of Catia the no 1 in cad and product design solution

I think with AD acquiring the last of the major modelling apps used to create game content(Blender? Pffft) that it actually sets the stage for MS and Caligari to push TrueSpace into the market with little to no effort.

Autodesk will increase the prices of their software. They always do. In the meantime, Caligari now has the resources to develop the bejeezus out of TrueSpace. If they do this right, TrueSpace would be competitive with not only google earth and sketchup, but could finally get into the real 3D markets as a more robust tool.

In order for this to happen, TrueSpace needs to support more formats than it currently does. .X is great for XNA devs, and Torque is Torque - But I bounce around the open source community - you know, the one that makes games for Windows, Linux, and Mac?

As a developer, I want my game to reach as many people as humanly possible. That is why I don't use XNA or Torque. I don't want to ignore the Linux Community. And honestly, there is no reason that I should have to.

If TrueSpace would support more formats - MD3, MD5, and hopefully also Ogre, then it would have a great chance of busting into this market. Getting into the game development community at large would do some serious good - especially with a big, polished, free application.

Really how many users here are planning on working for Pixar?

Well thank you very much Steinie for utterly obliterating my dream with a single direct hit! Now I'm gonna crah! :D

Seriously... that Would be a cool job! At SigGraph 2006 in Boston, just for the heck of it, I dropped off my resume at LucasArts to aid their paper recycling program.

To put in a little comic relief into this situation I found this video not sure if anyone seen it but you might get a kick out of it:

I've used XSI but I just couldn't get a handle on the interface or I probably didn't want to. If caligari hadn't done the rewrite of ts I would have gotten XSI but most likely lightwave.

atm I'm perfectly okay with ts and my other supporting app blender. It took a little time to learn but I happened to get used to it within a week though that was back then with v2.45 I like how it doesn't let you create ngons too though sometimes I wish it would.
