Due to the current economic situation (just got laid off), I've decided to write my version of the Great American Novel, i.e. create the ultimate

website. However, my background is in embedded databases, and admittedly don't know much web animation, though I do know HTML, XML, C and Java. I was hoping that I could get some advice as to whether TrueSpace is the route to go, and if not, what do people suggest. I apologize in advance if my questions are painfully newbie.

Here is what I would like my website to offer: I want to create a simple (?!) 3D model of a village, with streets and buildings. With the aid of a cursor (or arrow keys), I want to be able to have a figure/avatar walk around and navigate to various points in the village and interact with objects in the 3D space.

Is this doable with TrueSpace? I understand that TrueSpace is good for modeling 3D objects, but is it good for realtime rendering in a webpage?

Or with TrueSpace, could I build a city and export the model for use with Java3D?

Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this has been done before. Check here: http://www.exitreality.com/.:(

Also currently you can only have interactive online 3D pages if Caligari specifically licenses you space; meaning you can't just make an online world of your own. From what I understand it is rather expensive too, I heard somewhere a number like $5,000!!:((not a quotable figure by the way :p)

tS shared spaces are not embeddable in web pages - you need to go into the shared space, and out of the HTML environment.

I'm not sure what exists for genuine embedded 3D spaces - usually it is faked isometric or similar, all possible using Silverlight or Flash (but all of which would take some learning). tS could be handy for producing the graphics for that (I like to use 3D to make my 2D graphics for many things like reusability, ease of use in making them etc).

HTH!
