I have been making a tutorial for these guys in London about using TS7 to make game models with. Everything went great until they tried to use their light map engine on it, they told me that my textures are on the first layer of the model and need to be moved to the second so they can use the first layer for the light maps. I have never in the whole time I have used TS and GS had to move texture layers. Could someone please tell me how to do this with TS7?

Thanks!

Vickie ;)

You'd need to either use Model side for old fashioned layered textures, or have a special DX9 shader written for the workspace side.

Note that neither would export to any external game format eg X format (not sure about COLLADA). What end format are they planning on using for exporting the models in? Getting layered shaders out at that point could be a sticking point anyway, even if you got the layers set up in tS. If they are not exporting, then it's definitely possible to use light maps since Marcel (Parva) has been doing that for some time with his awesome real-time scenes.

I only know about the texture layers with lightworks offline !

Neither Vray nor any other system suppoprts layers at the moment...

We have asked for this a long time ago but not yet available.

What you can do though is export to another aplication that does and

bake it so you can use it in TS.....

Modo does that for you as an example....

I see, thanks for the info Guys this helps a bunch. The format that I'm

exporting out to is .X, So I should be able to use layers. I'll play with it and

see what I can do for them.

Thanks~

I wonder is it possible their talking about uv sets as opposed to texture layers? I'm auditing an online class and they are using different uv sets for things like color and displacement mapping.

There's no way to export multiple uv layers from truespace as far as I know. 3dsmax does this, I think maya does as well. Other apps may do it too, but they also have to export to directx properly which isn't common.

Maybe this could also be done using a 3d engine like darkbasic pro. It may be worth asking at the TGC forums as I believe lightmapping is done on a separate uv layer in DBPro (but please don't quote me :D).

I think truespace can export 2 uv sets. It has checkboxes for X and Collada for uv1 and uv2.

uv1 and uv2 are also options in the mapped displacement tool.

I think your right, this should be exactly what's needed. I don't know how I missed that, it's right next to uv1.:o
