So I did an experiment with four cubes.
Two were left free
Two were encapsulated in 3D
I entered the encapsulation object, and then a function of the 3D workspace disappeared.
Inside the 3D encapsulation, I could select objects from the workspace. Only from the link editor.
Why does truespace do this?

So... if I understand you correctly.
Select your 3D Ecapsulated group.
Select the Down Arrow Keyboard Key.
Select the Right Arrow Keyboard Key to select the encapsulated objects. |

Using the Workspace aspect:
I can select objects with the keyboard on Space 3d Plane
I can select objects with mouse on Space 3d Plane
I can select objects with keyboard in encapsulate plane
I can not select objects with mouse in Encapsulated plane |

You can select your sub objects with your mouse, after you select the Down Arrow Key. |

Scenario 1:
On Space 3d Plane
In 3D View (Workspace)
Select Encapsulated group
Press Down arrow key
Objects become available to keyboard
Objects become available to mouse
Scenario 2:
On Space 3D Plane
In 3d View (Workspace)
Select 2D view (Link Editor)
Enter Encapsulated object
Select 3D view (Workspace)
Press Down Arrow key
Objects become available by keyboard select (left, right)
Objects do not become available by mouse select
I'm trying to explain this as clearly as I can. I'm very new to Truespace

Ah I think I know what you mean.
Sometimes I have to Double click the sub objects in the Link Editor.
You can also drag a rectangle around your object to select too. |

I have attached a screenshot of the workspace
I see what you mean in the link editor. Selecting items by mouse in link editor works
If you see in my screenshot, I have one of two cubes selected. They are stacked on top of eachother.
I can select either one by left or right arrow keys
I can not switch back and forth using my mouse inside the encapsulated object, from the workspace view

I dunno... it works here.
The only other idea I can think of that may help, is change your Selection options in the Stack/Desktop.
Desktop
Selection = Small BBox
Wire Highlight = Subobjects |

Thanks for the help.
At least I can use the keyboard to select objects on the workspace from inside a 3D encapsulation
I guess I'll have to live without my mouse for now.

For me, after selecting one encapsulated object in the LE, then I can select any encapsulated object in the 3D view using the mouse. |

Works fine here too, on all the selection modes as well.
now one thing, if you enter the encapsulated object in the LE, you don't need to press the down key in the 3D window, you are already inside the encapsulated group, and can just go to using the mouse to select the two objects. Only if you start from the top level in the 3D window and you want to enter the hierarchy from there without using the LE do you use the down key (in effect, the down key in the 3D window would ask it to enter the currently selected cube).
Though I've followed those steps, and it still works as normal for me. Another thought, was it encaps in 3D that was done, or just encaps?
HTH!

The object was encapsulated in 3d
But I run into the same problem with encaps most of the time. |
