In some way, 3Dexplorer -an 8 years old plugin- is still preferable to truePlay if you need to provide your client with a simple "clic and view" tool to explore a 3D scene.

An option to create, from trueSpace, a custom truePlay executable with preloaded scene and custom user interface SHOULD BE ON TOP OF THE TODO LIST !

Yes, I totally agree. I mentioned the lack of .exe creation in an earlier post in this thread.;)

It may even be fun to make small games then too.

offtopic but I just came over to Quest3D (http://www.quest3d.com/index.php?id=215) website after some time and the 2008 winner looks really good. Wait for the video. Now Q3D isn't really suitable for artists and costs lots of bucks - here trueSpace could win but unfortunatly it lacks, like many said already, of features.

I really hope that in this area some development can be made.

... additionally the online game EVE gots the realtime radiosity engine Enlighten (http://www.geomerics.com/enlighten-media.htm) licensed... we need such lighting engine also :D

Man Parava I think I just shorted out my laptop looking at that demo. Wow is one word to use. That rivals the Unreal 3 engine.

So, until we get a proper Real-time export tool that works at work, the main way to make money with trueSpace is to use its Offline renderers. Which are Lightworks, V-Ray, and Dribble.

If there is no future for V-Ray nor Lightworks, then... trueSpace puts itself out of the game.

Or Dribble takes over as the only developed offline renderer for tS. Which, if you think about it is no bad thing. Especially as it has features better than tS' native renderer: SSS, Fur, GI and true displacement.

Vray has a few of these but still no displacement and SSS/Fur are better in Dribble.

Interesting debate here but I don't think it is too much to expect someone at Caligari to let us know about the future of Vray. I, for one, would like to focus on learning something else if it is not to be something I can depend on in the future and, much as I love LW, I am already having to layer images from multiple renders as LW is falling behind the times while dribble does not support all I need yet; volumetrics, Simbionts etc.

Yes it is thats the point !

I wrote about that in the other thread about the + 3 000 000 downloads.....

We didnt get an answer for years so why should we now .;)

If they make a new version we can buy it if they pull it its gone.....

WE ARE NOT ASKED !:D

You know now 1 reason why I play with the dirty K... word !:D

I know whats up ... whats coming ... I can ask and get an answer....

I just wished Jack was finished already !:)

Hey if Jack can get Kerkythea to work in workSpace and Simon gets Dribble to work there also we will have many new options to explore.

Question:

What is the concern here again?

That VRay will disappear?

Or, that VRay will not have additions: X, Y, and Z?

Or, is there another question at stake here?

I don't see VRay disappearing from Truespace. That'd be business suicide.

Regarding additions to the software, Caligari employees have often repeated reasons why they don't predict the future, indicating which features will be implemented. The primary reason appears to be: sometimes the functionality gets pulled prior to release for reasons: A,B, and C.

I don't use VRay but it sounds like those who do use it want more features. Can't complain about that!

On the same thread, what's wrong with Kerkythea? I know this isn't a thread about Kerkythea but it sounds like it has a bad rap around here. You have me curious now. :)

Do you think a VRay features poll is in order here? Since I don't use VRay I don't know what the most wanted features are but, if we can create a poll and get Caligari's attention, directing them to the poll results, perhaps they would have something to focus on.

Basically I think we need to focus this energy and get Caligari's attention on this.

True.

Problem is that trueSpace's real-time potential is -professionally- not fully exploitable yet.

Each time I sold a real-time presentation to some clients for a show, they asked me to be present at the show and to operate the software/navigation from my computer -simply because they are afraid of possible problems at :

- installation

- scene loading

- settings the best display options according to hardware configuration

- navigation (for example, French's keyboard is AZERTY and truePlay is QWERTY by default so you need to remap the keys at every session!)

Each of these potential issues that are 100% about EASE OF USE must be adressed ASAP.

In some way, 3Dexplorer (http://www.3dexplorer.it/) -an 8 years old plugin- is still preferable to truePlay if you need to provide your client with a simple "clic and view" tool to explore a 3D scene.

An option to create, from trueSpace, a custom truePlay executable with preloaded scene and custom user interface SHOULD BE ON TOP OF THE TODO LIST !

Honestly, in the list below, what is your preference :

- to publish a free model on Virtual Earth,

- to sell a couple of 50$ models to some hobbyists via Turbosquid's Tentacle,

- or to sell a 1000$ real-time standalone scene to an architect's client,

hum ?

I see another problem with this - if MS/Caligari is going after the "3D webb" (which I don't think will succeed, but disregard that now), then they HAVE TO MAKE IT PLATFORM INDEPENDENT!

There isn't a single web technology who have succeeded without being platform independent. Both Java and Flash, the biggest plugins, are platform independent.

And here you have a problem with Microsoft as owner. Microsoft is stupidly clinging with the Windows platform. Even if they loose money over it. For instance, it would be better for Microsoft to sell Office for Linux for $500 each than to insist to only run on Windows and Mac and thus loosing all Linux business just because they want the $50 that an Window OEM license cost OEM's. Likewise, we won't see any Caligari technique for Linux or perhaps even Macintosh, which makes it DEAD as web technology.

I honestly dont see any golden thread in whats coming

up in TS for the future because making little houses for

maps cant be "IT".....

Most people who use Truespace want to make pictures with it.

Thats why we need render engines and " UPDATED" ones...

" I´ll tell you guys something but hush hush not very loud........

Simon told us hes trying to make symbionts work for dribble but when he pulls that feature I wont be angry at him ! I would though be angry if he wouldnt talk to us ! " This I wont tell you guys thing makes me more nervous then

any feature that is drawn for any reason.;)

Its like driving in a dead end street :D

TrueSpace's real-time potential is not professionally exploitable for presentation. But it is good to workl in real time. My solution for the moment is to use real time java with a navigator. I can show my work on pc or mac without install software. It is simple. I hope a function for ts8 like wirefusion. I hope Caligari don't forget to update the render engines because it is one of the most important utility for users.

You can see the realtime render here:

http://crea-vision.fr/annexes/mondes/design.html

(many samples on my site).

It is what i would like TS8 do.

Nice site Marcel.:)

If you could bake vray's gi to uv, it would be awesome for exporting to apps like wirefusion.

Bonjour Marcel,

Le site est vraiment intéressant.

J'ai juste une petite remarque sur la page "Réalité augmentée" il y a une faute d'orthographe sur le mot "ACCUEIL"

Phil

Thank you Phil. It is ok now. Are you french?

Microsoft need to buy Demicron and do a plugins Wirefusion for TS like virtual Hearth.(just for me) :)

I imagine also a mutitouch interface to move objets in real time like microsoft Surface.

Why not a ts online (Microsoft have a project of online OS: windows clouds)?

The future of Vray?...Microsoft or Google.
