Open for general discussion:

1) How about a Challenge where everyone creates a Model, creates a skeleton and a quick animation of the model? Any kind of Model (organic, structure or even a rock) It could be a robot, gun turret, creature, vehicle, or even my (Jack) ass.
The only rule change is your allowed to use an existing model you made. The emphasis is on the skeleton creation and animation. A WIP is a must and all must show how they did it. (I think this could be very beneficial)

2) Can you have two skeletons attached? Two separate animated objects but they are linked in some fashion.
2b) Can two models share the same skeleton? Have one skeleton built within two seperate models?

3) We really need more attention in the animation department.

4) Last night I attached my Mule head to a new modeled body and lost my textures. Boolean combine was used. Is that why? What would be a better way?

5) Please throw out ideas or questions of your own or reasons why you have not attempted animation up to now.

Open floor...

I like the idea about a challenge to make a bones animation, its something i really suck at.

The other challenges give me something to aim for and try to improve what i know (which is bugger all really), usually i have the attention span of a fruitfly

A challenge for animation is a good idea.

I'm trying not to be too negative here. Animation is TS's weak point. People have used the parts that work to do things (I did, http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=56356&postcount=20) and some have done impressive things using lots of non TS stuff and plug-ins. Due to bugs and unreliability issues, I wouldn't trust TS with the time and effort needed to try a flexible organic character animation. Has W!zard been able to animate his dragon? Have you, Steinie, animated any of your characters? I'd like to see a usable reliable workspace so I can make my Elf Animation (rant omitted). It's rapid rendering and renderer good at game/cartoon style would be great for that.

As is, if I ever have time, or time and money, then I would use (engage MS censor avoidance mode) the other free one or rhymes-with-bright-brave for animation. TS would still be better or easier for somethings.

The point is, an animation challenge would, for now, either be camera fly-bys and bouncing balls, or be done largely with non TS stuff. Maybe the interest in animation would encourage Caligari to complete the animation system.

If you right click any of the Workspace Boolean tools you will see an option to "Keep Materials".

You could always do stop motion animation(i really, really like that idea)

There is a free program called LiveSwif 2.2 which does Flash and support AS1 script.. i dare say you could do something like my MMC thing, the only problem i can see looking at LiveSwif is it doesn't support "erased" buttons (hidden buttons)

edit.. LiveSwif has really bad compression and doesn't handle png very well..

Cool, although I'm already working on something kinda big and tedious animation wise. I was wonder how to get an "H" shaped bone structure, I thinkg I may just use Motion Studio instead of the Workspace bones because as far as I can remember in the Workspace you can't have 3+ joints attached to a single joint, only 1 or 2. I'm not to sure if you can even do it with MoStu, but maybe I'm wrong?

I'm getting there...
I haven't set any Joint restrictions yet. Wasn't sure how to handle the mouth but this way does work.
I don't have a clue how to animate him yet. I'm just exploring one step at a time, grabbing and pulling.
Guess he's stubborn! (had to say that at some point)
His hair moves around when I change his position, that will look pretty cool when animated.
So far I have
1) Built the Skeleton
2) Shaped the Skeleton (just moving bones around to fine tune their placement)
3) Attached Skin to Skeleton
a) Select Skeleton (easier to do that in the LE)
b) click "attach skin to skeleton" icon
c) click on the mesh of the model
I put a couple locks on his heals to test and one in between his eyes.
Selected Dyna Pose and started pullin', grabbin' and laughin'!

His expression matches mine while I do this stuff...

Thanks Frootee, I can't wait for when you can join us again. It is always nice to take a breather now and then.
So far everything you see I learned from 3DFrog at his Animation Meetings in shared space. So blame him if this looks like horsey****.:D
This is starting to turn into a WIP here so I'll stop discussing my project and return to the subject of learning trueSpace Animation "as a group" to benefit all.

Ahhh Master,
I'm doing some things this weekend but if I can make it I would. I need to be retaught how to key frame etc. I had saved that session when you taught us but can no longer find it to study.
I also want to know how to properly add bones to a tail, animate eyes, can you morph a boned object, will hair behave badly when keyframed, how does boning a sds model get effected, should you use booleans before adding bones, etc etc...
