Hi all,

I've asked some questions in the forums, got some thoughtful answers from great people. I've been reading many of your posts and looking at the wonderful things you're making, learning a lot from it. There's still a very long and steep hill ahead of me. It's as if I am still playing with the easy bits in the toolbox. And when I try to really model something I usually end up with an amorphous blob and a stiff shoulder :o

In stead of hiding much longer from your discerning eyes I post this first attempt at a somewhat surreal still-life. You see, only simple geometry is involved. It's nothing like the glass shoe, light airplane, sailing ship or other wonderful things that you're making. The text on the bottle and the lantern (a strutted cube) are among the things I learnt from the forums. I hope I can soon make this more interesting by using more complex modeled shapes, and more atmospheric light.

A long journey begins with the first step you take. Many times it's trial and error after error before you achieve your goal.:) One comment would be the apparent faceting on the red vessel, I would suppose it's supposed to be smoother. Perhaps auto-facet is selected in the material editor?

Burisman, nice work..

I like how you do the green glass.. Looks very very nice..

Are a few comments, if i can...

1) Try to make the paper more... pressed?? by the glass...
2) try to make a wall behind the table or something to make the image more deep...
3) finish the table.. :D
4) Try to make the blue bottle more little..
5) I recomend add a vertical Infinit light for fake global illumination.. To fake that with one light, you can make this.. That reduce your render time but you can see a good result.. :D

Continue with your very nice work.. :D

Welcome!

For the faceting on the red bottle, I think a "smooth quad divide" 3983 will do the trick.

Prodigy has a point. Creating an environment will give all the reflective surfaces something to reflect and help to make them appear less flat. Right now all the bottles have to reflect is their neighbors. You could set up a plane, behind the view point, and surface it with a photo or image. The slower way would be to build a room.

I can't tell if the light in your street lamp is supposed to be lit, but a trick for working light bulbs (and candle flames): Put a local light inside the bulb or flame. Make sure the render property of the glass bulb (or flame) is set to "doesn't cast/receive shadows" and turn up it's luminance in the material edit box.

One thing about climbing the trueSpace mountain is that you are never alone. There's a lot of talented folks here that really enjoy helping our fellow artists.
