On 10/12 Roman talking about previous post of 8/4
"On the minus side I do have to apologize for slower progress with TS7.61 patch, we got caught up with product planning issues. Patch will be forthcomming though and if everything goes well it will have an important new addition, stay tuned for next Captain's Blog which hopefuly will not take as long as did this one."
The blog has turned into a bimonthly! Does this mean a 50% discount?:D
Any updates on the status of TS7.61? |

Wow no response?
Even the users here didn't comment. Apathy, Holiday Season, Economy, Seasonal Change or Lock Jaw?
So it is not important to be updated by Roman anymore?
This whole thread could be in the current MMC! |

Probably all of the above.
I think most forum members have given up on getting official status updates for releases or patches.
Roman noted an important new addition. That's great but I hope there are plenty of bug fixes and needed basic tools. Workspace needs its basic tools, its foundation, built before the extra cool goodies are added.

Steinie ! What do you expect to hear.
Look what new wonderfull tools we got for TS 8 ?
It will take some time to get there and the world economy with
all the big companies on the brake wont necessarily speed things up !
Roman said in the other thread that he wants to hear things from
us... and we should continue to ask for things that we want to have....
(Emmanuelles thread)...
I for myself can only say that 1. I have lots of software and so much
to learn at the moment that I wouldnt even have time to learn a new
TS8 at the moment...(just bought Modo a few months ago..)
2. have so much work as a photographer at the moment that I am tired when I come home and although I do some 3d every day ( mostly Sketchup +moi)
I just dont have more time.....
3. Software serves a purpose and at the moment its making large
futuristic skyscrapers for me.
Truespace would have this as its main field at the moment but quiet frankly
it has hair what most of the people dont use here and dynamic cloth
which we´ve seen here lots of (no pun intended) but when we look around
for the basic tools like drawing a base outline for a house (in WS side)- NADA !
4. I guess if people in charge (the people who are in touch with the people outside Caligari) like Thomas who knows a lot about 3d and has done very nice work in the past would have more time to work with Truespace
AND other software they would see how things could be improved and
why some other software is easier to use because of workflow.
Dont get me wrong its not impossible in Ts its just not always as easy as
it could or should be.....
If you sell a car you have to drive it too !
Otherwise you wont understand what the people are ranting over....
Truespace has some very well designed tools but some things are not...:o
As a producer of a product you only get new ideas when you use the product
yourself and discuss experiences with others....

I can fully understand why an IT company wouldn't want to announce things in advance, you don't want another company bringing out said feature first and patenting it.
However, this doesn't apply to 3d features so much imo, as most of the glory-grabbers have already been made elsewhere, and it's really a matter of bringing truespace up to speed, ironically even with it's predecessor in some cases. This is why I really don't understand why Caligari haven't at least committed themselves to matching what's already out there.
Anyway, as frustrating as it is, I can't bring myself to stop using ts, despite finding a very nice app (and brutally expensive in the final analysis) I tried recently which gave me a few things to think about.
On the upside, there seem to be a few very cool ts projects finished or on the way, like Prodigy's ambient light, which I'll defintely pick up soon, and Frootee's fluid-sim importer which is going to rock. Hopefully this will open the floodgates and we can have a situation similar to 6.6, where the blanks were filled by third parties, and some. Many of these plug-ins are still indispensible for me.
Anyway, nice try Steinie. :) |

I agree transient, the plugins are key to rounding out the product.
I don't want anyone misinterpreting my comment. I appreciate what there is in TS but the plugins and other tools I have from 6.6 make the difference. Of particular importance is virtualight and Lightworks as rendering options. I hope one or both make it to the "other" side soon. |

I understand you Robert, we miss the old caligari... The new is more "distant" but in the bottom is the same great group of people...
About captain's blog.. Who knows, maybe Roman is busy or is not able to speak in the same way than in the past..
Cheers my friend.. |

I am a ghost here now, due to the fact that...
A) True, it is not the same Caligari,
B) I am tired of "workarounds" and feeling let down.
I love tS 6.6, but 7.6 still feels too gimmiky...??? the divide loop is not so great, cloth is finiky, no hair collision other than the emitter...etc....it's too bad, but we are still in a time will tell phase(IMO), but it has been somewhere around a year of that so....
I am a blenderhead/Kerkythea and 3D gamestudio guy now. |

Alas, many of these are the reasons I don't come around here much nowadays. I still use tS but to produce artwork to supplement what I have already established rather than using any of the new features.
Caligari, tS and the forums are just 'not the same' anymore.
I think the caligallery was the last straw for me (and Flavio I guess). No prizes worth having (as a 3D artist) and what was there could not even be transferred to another forum member...so a copy of Vray, which we both have, gone to no-one!! Credit from previous wins...lost.
No offence Tom etc. I realise it is out of your hands but where is the incentive to enter high quality work anymore? It does take time to make...and for what if not for personal use? It's not a big issue for me but I used to look forward to seeing my work up there on the screen and the prize was the icing on the cake.
I will continue to use tS as always (no farewells here) and await updates, even turn out the odd icon if I am asked but I just don't seem to get enthused to visit the forums anymore...that is why I have been absent of late; no other software taking my time...just work and life.
Keep well all...:D |

yeah it's quiet on the caligari side but, we will hear from them for sure.
On the plugin side, I have one little b*st*rd bug that's driving me nuts. I've isolated it it to a function and need to basically comment stuff out till it stops crapping out. Almost there! |

I really like tS7.6 real-time new side.
3D is very difficult and extremely time consuming to the point it's detrimental to the solo 3D Artist.
give a single person there pick of any or all the CGI app's.
have them make a movie, fro example a movie most of us have seen lets say the matrix it's not going to happen.would never get made.
it's like telling a single person to draw 201,600 frames it's not going to happen.
So what I think all the 3D app's tS,C4D,Blender,XSI,Max,Maya etc etc need is.
complete movie meshes.all the meshes, all the scenes.every thing so we can get some where.
we can't swim from Europe to US but we can fly.
not copy Matrix,LOTR,StarTrek,StarWars,DnD, movies.
but = to so we can accomplish something. |

I'm still holding out for the real-time aspect becoming useful to renderers. The Fryrender team is currently developing a real-time aspect that is a close proxy for the rendered output.
This is going to make huge waves, why couldn't this be Caligari and Vray (or better yet renderman, now there's a killer app....)? |
