The more people show their Truespace works on video forums like youtube Iam sure the more popular it will become. The more popular it becomes the more pros will get on board. Youtube is getting better and better. Check out these new features ...
1. Youtube is now WIDESCREEN! Which is 16:9. That means sharper much more stunning videos. Check out this quick WIDESCREEN trailer of big buck bunny. (yes, I know its that darn "blender" but truespace users will beat this someday..I hope)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KStfLZ9sqC8
here is info on the new format
http://www.reelseo.com/youtube-widescreen/
Widescreen is so cool. Just like all the new flat panel tvs.
So, when up create your animation for youtube widescreen viewing render it in any of these sizes .... 640x360, But other sizes such as 864x486 and 480x270 will work as well (note that 480x270 will not produce a HQ encode)
2. Just add this little bit of code to the end of your youtube url and your viewer can view in HQ mode.
&fmt=18
So just add &fmt=18 to your OLDER youtube videos and it will show in high quality. Newer widescreen format is already in a higher quality mode.
3.
HERE IS A GREAT TIP! Use http://www.tubemogul.com to post to many different video services (including youtube) INSTANTLY AND FREE. I instantly can post to 12 video services in one click. So very easy! Here is a quick multi site upload I did awhile back .... ALL IN ONE CLICK.

p.s. quote from youtube team ...
We're expanding the width of the page to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos you create and the screens that you use to watch them. This new, wider player is in a widescreen aspect ratio which we hope will provide you with a cleaner, more powerful viewing experience. And don't worry, your 4:3 aspect ratio videos will play just fine in this new player. |

Thanks noko! I sure do love Truespace. Youtube gets a stunning amount of traffic. What an outstanding way to promote Truespace. I have been using Truespace over 20 years. I cant wait for more people to come on board. :jumpy:

Hey there jhowell. Yeah Very Cool. I like what you're doing with real time rendering. I saw the YouTube video... what was funny is the player tried to catch up to the download at first, so the animation played back at 'light speed'; Bobby was going berzerk!!! :D
I will be putting up some truespace videos on youtube sometime in the very near future. |

Hi Frootee, Cant wait to see your upcoming youtube widescreen postings! I have posted over last year or so dozens of youtube and other video posting sites Truespace postings. I have every single day people emailing me about Truespace. I just send them to the Caligari.com homepage and to the Caligari forum.... and I tell them how cool Truespace is of course.

Very cool. I'll be posting videos of the fluid sim importer/render package in action. We can use either real time render or VRay. :D
I believe it's pretty much done. I have to add one feature, then test it, plus documentation. Oh, and some cool promo videos too. :) |

Hi Frootee, Iam really excited about this. I follow your posts about fluid sim on the blender forum and as you may know I love real time rendering. I successfully have real time display rendered over 100,000 frames at a time (many times now) with Truespace 7.6 (sure was fast). So, fluid sim really is super cool.

Excellent. Real time rendering is pretty fast with the fluids. It's only limited by the time required for dealing with the textures (I believe). |

I am a complete novice at this but am interested in making a video for YouTube. What are the recommended parameters such as frame rate and compression?
I understand that the output from tS is a series of jpegs. I can assemble these into an avi using VirtualDub. Finally, I was considering using MS MovieMaker to stitch scenes together for the final output.
So... frame rate? Should the output from VirtualDub be uncompressed? What is the best input format for YouTube? Do you recommend a different flow/toolset?
TIA |

Hi jrbodie, nice thing about the video editing programs like sony vegas and others is that you can do transisitions and special effects. However, virdub is awesome for just getting your rendering animations on to youtube. Make sure you render at 640 by 360 for the youtube wide screen format. My favorite setting is AVI video using mpeg4 compression. Here is another wide screen test I just uploaded to you tube ...
High Quality youtube widescreen

low quality youtube widescreen

Thank you for the reply and especially for tweaking my interest in this!
I have been experimenting with
tS(png) -> VDub(uncompressed avi) -> MovieMaker(wmv) -> YouTube
as well as
tS -> Vegas(wmv) -> YouTube.
While I could probably do everything I need with VDub/MovieMaker (I'm no Spielberg), I like the Vegas flow because there are fewer intermediate renders and I certainly have plenty of creative options.
You probably know this but you can get even higher quality by sending YouTube video at 1280x720. You then get 'HD Quality' which appears to be even better than 'High Quality'.
The realtime render in tS is fantastic for animation. |

I have tried uploading dozens of different tests videos to youtube to test. You are correct that 1280 by 720 is great for high quality but there is a huge problem when it comes to load times for people with slower modems. The larger file you upload to youtube the longer it takes to load for playback. So I just try to offer both for my viewers by keeping my uploaded videos as small as possible. Then they can select lower or higher quality videos depending on their connection. Dont forget that super cool tubemogul.com for uploading your videos to a bunch of sites at once. Everytime I upload I use tubemogul and it posts my video on to a bunch of sites. So easy. See my post in this thread about about that here ...

I wonder if you can submit both a 640x360 and a HD 1280x720, maybe just name video slightly different. Still plans for the future for me. |

It would be 2 seperate video post uploads but is a good idea. You could give out both links to people. One for them to view in low rez and one for them to view in the high rez (1280by720 reduced). Basically I do the same thing now by adding the &fmt=18 code to my youtube url's. That allows a youtube video to be viewed in high quality. But as you mentioned I think the 1280by720 uploaded video would be even higher quality but you would have to upload two seperate videos ... a 640by360 and a 1280by720.
Here is an 8000 frame high poly count animation I rendered in truespace's real time view. This is not widescreen. Notice the slower loading time on the high quality ...
