Im glad I got the light presets you posted... Why did the board close Parva, do you know? Lots of good information there...

The German tS Forum closed because the owner and initiator found no time to support it anymore and currently there is a takeover from another person (hopefully).

Btw. little addition to the work in progress.
Unfortunately I work in another program now but maybe will do a special rendered version in trueSpace.
Still some things to do like the bottom of the ship.
Some screens and a wip for the first scene -> link (http://www.parva-project.de/stuff/wip/cwip1.jpg)

I hope you didn't move to another program to replace TS did you?
p.s. Awhile back you were talking about Silo for modeling and I broke down and bought it from your recommendation and examples. Thanks

What kind of a payment schedule would such a vessel cost Marcel?

@Steinie - well I wouldn't call it replacing but yes I try to find the program I can work very well within.

@Rich - thanks :D

@Norm - As model or as real ship? I should meassure the size but I think it's huge :D
seriously, I have no clue. As hobby project I haven't planned a schedule. I think 2 weeks until the final with textures and lights is possible. Payment is adaptive due to the funding possibilites of the client and the kind of the final product.

Question is like buying a car on the installment plan. How many payments?
I want a fast ship for my next life :)

In the company I'm working for I use 3ds and Vray but there I don't have a personal license at home I go currently with Cinema 4d 10 and hope that the new Vray plugin is ready this year. At least it looks promising, all the stuff the original vray1.5 has is there -> link (http://www.vrayforc4d.com/start.html).

edit: thank you Misc :) good to hear

When you render this, you've gotta make the big smooth bits translucent! Think of the Tripods from the recent War of the Worlds movie. Looks superb!

little update:
top three screenshots are taken from 3d view (realtime ;))
white/black shots are pure lightmap textures
(just one ambient light in scene - bottom only one shadow casting direct light). These will be blended with the diffuse texture to enhance shapes.
Object has 500k triangles and runs very smooth even in fullscreen 1280x1024 (yet... with more textures, complex shaders and shadows it will become a tweaking process :D)

bottom are rendered samples for a scene (which will look similar in realtime).

I hear that! Me too!

Marcel, you need to have a look at the game Supreme Commander, 'cos that looks a lot like the ships in that game (which is quite fun, by the way!).

Awww that's excellent! There's nothing quite like a well concieved and masterfully presented trueSpace spaceship for bringing a tear to the eye.

This is a great ship Marcel - you have an excellent eye for creating dynamic and interesting shapes in your modelling. Well done Sir!

many thanks for the comments.

@Madmouse - don't feel like a beginner. In fact I could never get such a great texuring like you pictures have. For the ship I used a simple cube projection. 2 blended textures for the metal part and 2 blended textures for the bio-metalic armor (the snake-looking part, maybe someone remember on the first spaceships where I used the same or similar texture).

And a good thing with the new uv mapping in tS7.5 will be the use of more as one UV channel. That means you can have one uv coordinates for a texture and another uv coordinates for another texture (in my case the lightmaps). Reallly handy.

@Methusela - ah, will take a look at Supreme Commander. Must admit I don't play strategic games very often... maybe Command & Conquer but thats not really strategic ^^

Ah, the ship just gets better ! Amazing detail, and the texturing looks great ! :D

Methusela, about SupremeCommander, do you mean the spaceship in the intro movie...not in the actual game ? Though, the UEC landfactory is also slightly similar...;)

(It's a great game, but needs a mighty computer during the biggest assaults :D)

little realtime flyby taken with Camtasia 4 on a geforce 6600.

Shows first just ambient light, second with direct shadow casting light, and final activated supersampling.

Love those details.

Looking forward for the high res.

Nice also how the ship is the middle of empty space and the nice planet creating some kind of emptyness?, also gets the ship bigger...

Keep up the good work as usual, really enjoy as usual.

thank you Amrose and Luis.

How many hours did you put into this?
For the ship I think a sum of 2 weeks with all the modeling and texturing.
The planet was made quickly as well as the asteroid.

Hopefully I get time for a short animation. Simple flyby but for the interstellar jump I have something special in mind and the hole in the center of the ship is the key ;)

Very nice image!

The model and the textures look great. Which renderengine did you use?

The atmosphere of the Planet is a little bit to strong an constant.

Looking forward for the highres version and the animation.

oh, ILM is some steps above my ability but yes I enjoy 3d work :)

thank you Misc. Yes the planet isn't earth ^^
Once the planet was hot and dry but changes increased the water vapor and aerosol. Increased cloud covering and thermic alteration result in a changing/chaotic wind system.
... somthing like that :D

Oh and it's rendered with Vray in 2 layers (ship and asteroids nr. 1 and planet is nr. 2)
Also some special color editing in Photoshop.

Here a color/light scheme I used as reference:
