Was rumaging through my drives this week searching for a bitmap texture I never found but it did remind me of some of the fun that was had over the years. Rendering animations was a bit tedious because it tied up the only computer I had at the time and often went for many hours and my skills were quite limited at the time. Nevertheless, seeing this very primitive short clip brought a smile to my face (but not to the character within).

This was my attempt at experimenting with facial expressions using animated objects instead of rigs or morphs (something I knew very little about). Generous use of the "look at" constraint were used for obvious reasons. I think this may have been just after the purchase of symbiont and the eyeballs might be a texture from that. Lately I've been more into procedural animation via scripting since I seem to get pretty good results that way. I think at the time I had watched some robot animation where they didn't have many facial parts to work with (long before the age of WALL-E) and were trying to express as much as possible with a few simple parts.

trueSpace has come a long way since those days. Please feel free to add your own examples. Thought it might be fun to see some of our current artists' humble beginnings :)

P.S. No actual flies were harmed in the making of this short clip (a simple sphere was used instead).

My humble beginnings were in Terragen !

Then Bryce ... before I came to Truespace 4.

The nice thing about Terragen is that you always end up with a

photorealistic result compared to the

investment in time and effort its a program that has brought lots of people to 3d:D

Trouble is to find my first render....and so many cd-s to to look through.:o

And I´m not one of the tidy people..

Well, I guess I've been using tS since version 1 (or SE as it was described on the cover-disc...), which amounts to about 10 years. I can't find much of any 'experimental' stuff I did whilst toying withe the programme - the first 'serious' image I did was back in 2000 for a competition, using tS4.3, see below...
