I am looking for an import export plugin/script for the new WS side for objects. Currently if you go over to the old 6.6 side you loose the texture size (6.6 side works with a limited texture size while the WS side is only limited by memory)
Anyone have anything they have? Even a buggy beta version ? :) It mwould help with some things I would like to do.

What format are you importing or exporting to?
Thanks!

I am open to anything anyone has, mostly I work in obj, but any format that leaves me quads in the mesh would be helpful.
And please do not recommend going over the bridge to the LUUV plugin :)
Requirements:
leave the textures intact (the size I make them in WS side)
keep the mesh in quads
Thanks for the reply.

LUUV always saves out the same size map that's applied to the object when I use it, upwards of 4096. The limitation in 6.6 (and I'm guessing modeler) is viewable texture size, it has nothing to do with exports from my experience.
LUUV is one of the best things about ts imo, probably the most friendly obj exporter I've ever used. It even works with Shade 7, and it's very finicky about obj imports. I guess a workspace version would be ideal, however I've never had any issues exporting workspace models from modeler. |

yes it will, the Bridge on the other hand is limited... but than you already knew that.

The main limitiation of the bridge is animation, and even then it will move animations from workspace to modeler nicely since the 7.6 upgrade. I don't have problems moving models around in or out with luuv - far less than apps like Hexagon and blender which always seem to need fixing.
Maybe Emmanuel would be the best person to talk to, as I remember he once said he renders out images upwards of 8000x8000 pixels for work, and has had no issues with modeler and texture size as far as I know. |

Emmanuel is predominantly a TS 6.6 side guy. I can appreciate your enthusiasm for TS and the Model side, I work almost exclusively on the WS side... and there are more issues with the Bridge than you mention, unfortunately it is a necessary evil in some instances but working with large textures and bringing them back and forth across the bridge shrink them to the Model side default.
Again, not to confuse this issue, it is a Bridge thing, not a Model side thing.
Would just be nice to have a WS tool/script/plugin/ to handle some of the popular export formats... LWS, OBJ maybe a couple of others would at least make TS a very useful tool, assuming you use the new side exclusively.

Yes and that is exactly what Jack Edwards is working on
at the moment including a WS side Collada importer and exporter.

I work mainly in 6.6. If you're going to be snide at least get it right......
I've tried replicating your problem, however every time I apply a map in workspace it exports from modeler (using luuv) at the same resolution, regardless of modeler's viewport settings. This is using the bridge on auto and smart sync.
I've tried up to 4096 png and jpg - if you need bigger maybe that's the limitation.
Like I said, emmanuel would be the guy to ask as he does huge renders for work, and would probably have more experience with this than others here. He also uses workspace, he's done some of the best vray renders I've seen, so no worries about his qualifications there.;) |

There really is no way to have a conversation with you, is there?
It's ok, I was asking a question and I have my answer... always fun having dialogue with you.

I never raised the modeler v workspace horse-flog, you did.
I've tried to help, if it's not good enough for you, that's cool. Have a nice day.:) |

Well, the offer is still there.
I was thinking about it briefly... but frankly I do not want to get drawn into a conversation with you... I made the unfortunate mistake of trying to be polite and acknowledge your post here. I was hoping my short answer would indicate to you I did not want to get involved in any dialogue with you... again I was wrong. Unfortunately I once again, got involved in another useless and pointless debate with you that served no purpose and did nothing to answer my question or help to solve the situation.
The point of my question here was to hopefully find a tool that would work into my particular workflow. I use the Workspace side of TS7.6. It is a tool that allows me to do some things that I have learned to do quite well, and I prefer TS for them. You never asked the specifics of what it is I do, and why I needed an exporter, so your findings while correct for your criteria, still do not address my specific needs. Than if you worked on the WS side of TS regularly you would also be more familiar with using the Bridge, I will not go into that because that was never meant to be the point of this thread or this post.
You obviously are very happy with TS and feel the need to champion it, cool... why do you feel I am any different? I use the tool, and some others. Pointing out things that do not work help the developer's to see the problem areas. If we sit in here, the public forums for Caligari and pretend everything is rosy and wonderful you give Caligari the impression the tools are perfect the way they are... It is a difference of my way of finding a solution and yours...
It appears that I have inherited you, and you are given the sole job of making sure every question post I make, you are going to point out what it is I am having problems with, whether correct or not you continue and always follow it up with something like... "well, I was just trying to help"...
Read the question, look at all the posts from other users? Look at the post from Tomg?, than again read my question again. Now read my posts again.... Where I made my mistake was continuing the exchange with you. It again leads down the road where I have to make posts I would rather not.
It's unfortunate but I can only see the solution for me is to place you on my ignore list, I said unfortunate because for the most part I enjoy seeing some of the work you post on the forums, but I do not enjoy exchanges such as this, so unfortunately the good does not outweigh the bad... sooo...
Consider yourself ignored...

Whoever is writing the OBJ exporter should make sure there is an option that procedural shaders can be converted to texture files that have various dimension options.
Also options to include groups with names. |

Why didn't you just post this bit? It gets the point across nicely, and I could have used the time I spent reading the rest of this garbage searching for pictures of Eva Mendes.
I get so little me-time as it is, shame on you! |
