Oh man, you are the best! I was setting up a couple of weeks back to really make a better effort to get good at solid surface modeling :) These really help getting me going... I just put the finishing touches on the truck earlier...
Nice exercise Jim.

About 3 hours to this point - the 2 false starts which I ended up starting over from. It will probably take another 2-3 hours to clean up the rear section... no telling how long the front will take... nice challenge.

Thanks Pete...
This is the basic model, I can only guess it would take another 2 hours to clean up, possibly another 3-4 hours to detail enough for use...
It ain't perfect, I would guess about 5 hours to this point... I still need a ton of practice, but this was a good challenge.

3 more hours down, maybe three more to go. I just need to fix the proportions on the rear fenders and work on the front trunk area. This will make a cool prop in an animation. Far from a good clean model, but it should animate and render ok.
Thanks Jim...
Rich
BTW, if you want to keep doing this, think 50's and sixty's 2 seat sports cars :) |

Very nice model you did. Lots of complex lines and curves on that car. I had always read that the beetle was a hard car to model, I always thought it was pretty straight forward... that was until I started to model this car, this is definitely a challenging car to get looking good. My model is close enough for game use, or low resolution animations, it would never hold up on beauty renders.
@JimB, thanks, I appreciate the comment :) I see the new one, Honda sportscar also... I'll be over there later tonite.

The beetle reminds me of an old joke... :
A man and a woman spent a whole night in bed with each other.
In the morning the man asks the woman : how was I in bed ?
Was I like a Volkswagen beetle or was I like a Porsche or was
I like a Ferrari ?
The woman answers : well my dear I´m not that much familiar with all those
cars but YOUR NOT GOING TO GET A MOT CERTIFICATE FROM ME !:D |

Okay JimB !
You r right. The beetle is a realy hard to model car.
I try the same car in 3 houres and i hang it up. To hard and i ignore to create details on this car. You get my respect for this project.

Haha I think you know whats possible in Truespace judging by your work on the Beetle ;)
I probably wont get much done for the next few days due to it being Christmas, and the fact that my wife is threatening to do horrible things to my laptop (shudder) if I should spend too much time on it. :(
