OpenCL is a more open standard for using GPU for many different types of tasks supported by a number of companies (but not Microsoft at the moment). Now having raytracing graphics in real time may happen sooner then later with accurate shadows, caustic, fresnel and what not. Computing power or accessible computing power will skyrocket in the very near future with Nvidia already taking the lead.
