I think the size of the user base is reflected in the activity on forums like this -- and this form is dead compared to say the Blender Artists forum and the Silo forum. I also think user enthusiasm is essential for building a user base and silence from those in charge kills user enthusiasm and causes users to defect to other programs.

Roman, the community really needs to hear from you.

Roman did make a short statement, and it is good to hear from him. Unfortunately all we've had is short vague statements like this for the last year. I really hope he plans on truly invigorating this community by finally talking about ANY exciting plans they have for the future of tS. Give us some hope Roman. ;)

With or without VRay I know tS is extremely fun !

And there lies how I feel. Sure, it would have been nice to have VRay in collaboration with the Workspace side, but we have to accept it for now.
I'd like to THANK Roman and his partners for offering to the world a FREE chance to experience such a FUN and creative program !!!:) The opportunity to create a scene that you can walk through, the opportunity to create your own characters to rigg and animate, the opportunity to be a part of one of the most entertaining and creative Forums......all of this is FREE and was originally around $600. In my opinion, this is one of the most generous programs offered for FREE !!! It sure has made my life much happier :)!!!

I'd also like to bring up Ivampretti's animation again (a few posts back in this thread) that was created without VRay.....

Time to chime in and probably regret it but live in the real and dream the ideal people...
The simple fact is that V-ray WAS NOT BEING BOUGHT BY PEOPLE!!!

Do you think that it could continue to be developed? How? Microsoft buys everyone
a licence from Chaos Group and gives it away? The reality of life is that developers
are the same as us, they need to live somewhere and eat etc....etc.

I've seen this many times in my life, I owned a Sinclair QL, an Amiga and watched
them slowly die off, always for the same reason. My love of a platform or
software program isn't enough if there isn't a large amount of people who
feel the same and are prepared to fork out some cash to back it up.

Now I don't pretend to know Caligari's financial position post 7.5, but if I was a betting
man, (which I'm not), I'd bet they weren't hitting new highs with sales records.
I'm not a big fan of MS and some things they have done just plain pissed me off.
But I'm glad they recognized trueSpace's power and potential
and stepped in at the right time. The framework is in place for plug-ins
and scripts to be developed.

So learn from this and if for example you like Parva's shaders, Simon's
Dribble or froo's fluid sim, then step up and support it.

I still use trueSpace and still make money with it. What's stopping the rest of you from doing the same?

Reminds me of an old song,,,,(cue music)

Don't it always seem to go, ...you don't know what you got till it's gone.

They pave paradise, and put up a parking lot. oooooooh, la, la, la, la.

I still use Truespace and do not make money with it. I never intended to make money with it. I just like making pretty pictures. I do not like that V-Ray was removed from sales. I am hopeful that it will be supported up PAST version 8 because it is my preferred engine. However, I do not expect a subsidiary of MS to keep sales on a product that is not meeting MS expectations.
My greatest concern is that MS bought TS and Caligari for the real-time textures potential and not for anything else. Therefore, without any communication from either company I feel that MS is directing Caligari to remove anything that does not fit in with their purpose. Virtual Earth needs building models, not art. Letting go of V-ray for any reason just underlines the direction that I have always been concerned with as far as I can see.
Nor do I think that Roman would be permitted to confirm or deny my concerns because it's not his company anymore. He just runs it.

Hi all,

I did buy Vray for TS. It was a little buggy but thought it would improve both in "lack of bugs" and maybe added functions. The fact that caligari have now dropped this, well, they probably need to purchase license for use, so if that cost is not being viable then certainly it has to be dropped. Good new that support is still there with the possible bug fixes for vray in the patch. Talking of the patch. Does anyone know if the animation problems are resolved?, poor old bob is still in his very uncomfortable position.

Regards,

Frankly, if being owned by the biggest IT company on the planet isn't enough to drive progress in so-called hard times, then truespace never had a chance.

Very well said.

Can understand the reasons behind the pulling of Vray, but as a user with money not only invested in TS but also vray, I would respectfully request that up to and including TS8 be at least made compatable with vray, in order to give a reasonable lifespan to the usefulness of my investment.

PS. After 1 year I am still waiting for a usable, stable IK system. As a paid up user I would like to think that this situation would not drag on for much longer? I really am trying to avoid moving to blender as I am much more comfortable with TS and would much prefer to use it as my 3D app of choice, but the delay is becoming somewhat extreme, making it increasingly difficult to justify staying with TS, when it still doesn't do what it I believe it was intended to do when I purchased it. This isn't a rant it's an increasingly desperate request to provide what is in my view a very overdue solution.

Yours in good faith

Many Thanks

IK

OK, I freely admit that I have been super busy with my "day job" and hadn't even installed TS7.6 until last week (and only started fiddling with it yesterday), so perhaps I deserve whatever I've gotten ... however,

I paid for Vray when I purchased TS7.51 - and now it A) doesn't work with a measly 0.1 revision upgrade, and b) I have only "offline renderers" available in Workspace (and no renderers listed in the dropdown). WTF?

How am I supposed to render? The manual doesn't say anything about "offline renderers" so I have no clue how to get around this.

Can I just install my Vray for 7.51 into my 7.6 directory? ... Nope, that didn't work.

Anyone got a workaround?

First, have you checked you have the latest Vray? (check you repeat downloads).

As for the offline renderer, you have to install it via the workspace.

Go to the plug in icon in workspace (bottom right toolbar) then install the vray.rsx. Finally, load the renderer within the same screen.

Hope this helps and I got all the details right...:o

Thanks for posting this explanation as I am also installing TS76 and Vray on my new Vista 64.

For the OP, the latest VRAY is 1.53.

Also, to clarify, the plugin icon is as you say in the bottom right toolbar, then click on the second icon group from the left in this toolbar.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Whoa! Could you get just a bit faster with the replies? Thanks!

Unfortunately I've got 1.52 which apparently isn't the latest version. Does anyone have a link to 1.53?

I'm assuming you mean "package manager" where you said "plug in", but even given that I have no RSX files anywhere on my computer - even in my 7.51 directory.

Thanks!

It's in your download area I downloaded mine last night from there and it had both 1.52 and 1.53 for download.

Yes, package manager icon but it looks like an electric wall plug picture in the icon.

I am confused now-are you installing to TS 751 or 7.6?

To be honest I forget the procedure for 751, but I don't remember it being that different. BTW-the vray plugin should be where you installed it.

BTW-any special reason for not using 7.6? It is free now! :-)

Cheers

Whoops...you're right. I used the same icon as the plug in from the workspace side but it is the package manager.

Either way, you seem to have it sorted. Some good fixes in latest Vray as well...:D

It shows you how long it's been since I purchased 7.5/Vray - I can't find my email with the link to the download area. Also, I can't find a link anywhere on the main site - the store is as described above: just links to 3rd party vendors.

7.6, but I left 7.51 installed. It's freaky though - I've got Vray running under 7.51, but I don't have any RSX files? Hmmmm.

That's the weird part - the installation EXE wanted to go straight to my 7.51 director and all that's there for Vray are 3 DLLs and the PDF, no RSX

BTW-any special reason for not using 7.6? It is free now! :-)

That's what I'm trying to do :-) Just don't want to lose my VRay rendering.

Memory fails me but I don't believe you can get the .rsx with 7.51.

Install tS7.6 then Vray 1.53 and you will see it.

Link for repeat download:

Good luck!!

Thanks! I'm home now, but I've downloaded 1.3 to my server and I'll install it on my machine tomorrow.

It worked like a charm! Ran the EXE, then loaded the package it dropped in my TS7.6 directory. Thank you for all the help.

P.S. OK, now that I've got the new Vray manual and it's manual, I can zoom in on the "Package Manager" icon and see that, yes, it does look like a plug and outlet.
