Back with some more....... (is anyone getting fed up with this yet???:) )

I ummm'd and arrrrrr'd a long time as to whether I should have wings on this fellow and finally went for it,

and I'm glad I did as I think they make him look rather imposing.

The wings will be organic and when the textures are finished the skin between the ribs will be torn and

tattered at the edges by transparency maps.

Just the tail and a few supplementary items to go now.

Steve

P.S. has anyone got any suggestions as to a weapon (or whatever). for his right hand.

A pitch fork would be the obvious one but I'm open to suggestions.

Your boy is coming along nicely Steve. Given I had so much success with my last suggestion I was thinking that I'd venture another one. Well actually more like endorse what you have already suggested: a pitchfork, one with only two tines or prongs which have lightning zapping between them like the electrodes on a Taser. That way you could model a few electrical looking features into the pitchfork - some cables, some charge capacitors, a control handle like on a Light Saber.

In your hands I'm sure you could come up with something suitable. :D

It could use a thumb claw on the wing.

I would recommend the classic flaming gothic sword but with tech stuff on a split blade, but horns coming out of the pomel/hand guard area.

Looking awesome - I love the way the face looks like it's 'pinned' onto the head... Wings are a bit 'neat' or tame at the moment, textures will obviously help but not sure they look mean enough at the moment - as already mentioned, would imagine you need some sort of thumb claw as a minimum, perhaps something nastier :D

In terms of weapon, I would second W!zard's idea of some form of 'techy trident' - sure you could come up with something suitably grim!

lol I was just going to suggest a futuristic pitch fork....with a rocket launcher? :p alot of tech detail and cables would do nicely to. :D

Hi MadMouse. exciting to follow the progress of this creature. He's a nasty customer. I was wondering how you modelled the wings, did you resort to NURBS when creating the membranes? If not, I would love to see a wireframe.

I am really in no position to make comments, but still ... the wings look awesome, but, as soon as you have added the legs in a later stage, they might look slightly small, considering that they have to carry that muscular body and the tubes and all. I think he will look more powerful if they extend beyond the hips (if there is such a thing in his anatomy ;)

Please continue!

Thanks guys,

Yep... a thumb claw, that's whats missing. Thanks Mick & Nez. It always amazes me the way that you can look and look at something for hours on end and miss something that someone else picks up on straight away. I suppose thats the beauty of posting W.I.P.'s here :)

Wings are a bit 'neat' or tame at the moment, textures will obviously help but not sure they look mean enough at the moment Well the edges will be tattered once I get the textures done, I wonder if they might overpower the main model if they were made too imposing?

Flaming swords and taser pitch forks... Hmmmm... both good suggestions. I had a couple of ideas myself, see what you think:-

1)... a bull whip or cat-o-nine-tails. Maybe glowing or on fire.

2)... a severed head being held by its hair. (lots more work but nicely gory & good fun to texture)

I'll be back with some thumb claws later.

thanks again

Steve.

PS. Our posts crossed Burisman... You may be right that the wings are a little small. its a simple matter to beef them up so I'll give it a try. It might make them a bit more 'mean' to. They were all modeled using point edit techniques ( I wouldn't know a nurb if it brought me a drink in a bar :)) I'll post you a wire frame when I come back with the thumb claws.

Hey, that's great, you're a multitasking guy, because you were all over the forums also:)

I think you won a chocolate egg  (somewhere in Kent, wasn't it?)

Very instructive, the wing, by the way... I've been struggling with NURBS on a similar membrane (not a wing, but a vault), but the b... thing went all over the place, and I went berserk. ;)

Yep Kent it is, spiritual home of chocolate loving mice everywhere :D

I don't like to keep banging on about Silo but I would of struggled to do this so easily in TS but in Silo it was easy peasy mice like cheesy :D (its been a long day :o )

How about a HoloWhip? (ala Red Dwarf season 5?)

A mutilated fluffy animal? :-)

.

1)Hmmn - I considered a flaming whip too but then decided it had been done before - Balrog anyone?

2) I like the idea of a human head but how about something even more sinister? A ..wait for it...(GASP) A teddy bear!!?

Already looking good with the thumb claw - the size has already been mentioned, but that's probably all it would take. I just thought that at the size originally shown, they might look a bit too 'cute' at the size they were - no doubt your texturing would see to that but they looked like they might not be suitably powerful/awesome for such a creature - I want to be scared by this guy!

I know you've got some Warhammer reference pictures - how about looking at some of the Demon Lord/Prince characters? Huge, nasty dragon-like wings... with your texturing and detail, I doubt they'd overpower the model, but guess it may take a bit of balancing...

Still, he's looking great!

Also Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal! Look for the Lava/Plasma Whip.

I think it'd be super mege intense if he had smoke wings. Think the Balrog from The Lord of the Rings. Like he could have smoke emitters coming from his back or else you could have the "bone" structure of the wings, but instead of the between-bits, it could be smoke! And of those things don't work, How's about you let him keep one organic wing, and give him a jet engine for the other!

(Just more suggestions :D)

Thanks for all the feed back guys,

@ Wizard and WW of the W:- I wish I was brave enough to go with a fluffy bunny I think its a fantastic idea (really) I can see it so clearly in my minds eye but I don't want this project to turn 'jokey' looking. Have to put some serious thought into this

@ Nez:- thanks for the compliments. The daemon lord is a great looking miniature and is good reference thanks.

@ Methusela :- Smoke wings you say... Hmmmm Now that's a very interesting idea... very interesting indeed. It would have to be post production smoke but if I could pull it off it would look great. I'll give it some thought cheers.

@ Daybe :- Thanks Dave. And as for Silo what can I say... BUY IT NOW!!!!:D If TS 7.5 new features make it half as easy for me to model as silo does I, and everyone else will be very happy puppies :D

Thanks again guys,

Steve

Been a while since the last update but I've not been sitting still... (honest:) )

All the modelling is now finished (except for whatever he ends up holding)

I wont show you the tail just yet as at the moment its not posed and looks like he's got a broom handle stuck up his butt :)

So now its on to my favourite bit TEXTURES!!

So first of all lets 'Pimp my Satan' (I did warn you it was gonna be shiny, shiny, shiny!)

I figure if anyone has got a good body shop then it would be old nick himself.

I hope the texture fans aren't to disappointed with the paint job but I thought the the clean, fresh, high gloss, metal fleck cherry red would be a nice contrast to the gory flesh of the torso, face and wings. (I guess only time will tell)

Gorgeous paint job Steve. HDRI in tS7 perchance?

I won't even ask you to share the texture...;)

Which HDRI map have you used?

I hope you have an upgrade to 7.5 Steve, would love to see your creations rigged and with the new hair system. Vray would be interesting for the finished item too.

Either way, I am really looking forward to seeing this one finished.

Gorgeous lacquered and polished look (easy to maintain with so many minions to lord it over!) Looks like gloopy, syrupy, sticky sauce - fabulous.

Red paint with metal flakes, cool! Just don't use pinstriping on him or hang two dice form his....
The bearing joints look great also, looks good with the bright red. I also like how your handling the lighting. Perfect!
You have a loop on one of the legs that is not being used, intentional?

Very nice, Mouse. The only thing I'd suggest -- and this is just personal aesthetic sense, so take it or dismiss it as you please -- would be making the hoof a glossy black.

the only quibble I have is that the hoof could show a little wear and tear...kicking ass in Hell for eternity would likely leave a few scratches and dings.

Oh Yes indeedy!

I won't even ask you to share the texture...

Why not? its only the built in TS multilayer paint ;)

Which HDRI map have you used?

That would be one called 'Room1', but I'm toying with the idea of trying to make my own in HDR shop with lots of fire to reflect in the paint work.

I hope you have an upgrade to 7.5 Steve

Just you try stopping me :D

LMAO :D great description to, thanks Kate.

Thanks Stephen, your one ain't to shabby either ;)

You have a loop on one of the legs that is not being used, intentional? There's two actually and yes they were intentional but serve no purpose other than to fill in a bit of space ;) Dice you say... Hmmmm now there's an idea :D

Your right of course Mick but if I start putting scratches on the hoof I wont be able to restrain myself from 'grime-ing' up the rest of the bodywork. Lets no go there.

@ prodigy & Ambrose... Thanks guys :)

Very nice, Mouse. The only thing I'd suggest -- and this is just personal aesthetic sense, so take it or dismiss it as you please -- would be making the hoof a glossy black. Damn good idea, see below, thanks for that Morgan, much better, and that one would of slipped through the net if it wasn't for you.

I like the red hoof better, although that may change when I see the whole thing. Great work so far!

The finish is gorgeous, although he'll be waxing his legs a lot to keep em shiny after walking through fire and brimstone every day.
