I bet Madmouse cheated with the textures...stuck tubes into his own body, waiting for it to get infected, then took photos. ;)
Looks very realistic, loving it ! And as usual, you don't disappoint us with you masterful texturing! :D |

A big thank you to everyone for the kind comments...
Forgot to ask, how long is it taking you to render this? Must be hauling a lot of resources Not really, just the torso section only takes about 2 mins to render with X4 AA @1152 x 864 so its still quiet easy going. I'm sure things will get slower as I get further along.
Nipples look a little like poppers/press studs Must be that cold day in hell I've been hearing so much about ;)
Does a Satan have a metal naval? If you can find me proof that he doesn't then I'll take it out Bob ;) :D
He has a hairy belly but not a hairy arm. He does have some hair on his arm but its quiet faint compared to his belly. The logic was that if he was still in one organic piece then his legs would be goat-like (think Mr. Tumnus) hence the denser hair around his waist.
Steve, have I ever told you just how much I like your work? Ermmm... not sure but I never get tired of hearing it so feel free ;) :D
Awsome madmouse! May I ask what software you used to create these textures? And they're hand drawn?? All done in Paint shop pro 7 (i've got 10 but I find it a bit over-bloated) and yes they are 90% hand drawn as in no photos used except for the scabby skin around the wounds (which I got from a medical site about skin diseases, you don't want a link trust me Yuck!!!) and the arm and belly hair.
I bet Madmouse cheated with the textures...stuck tubes into his own body Hey, what you kinky swede's do in the privacy of your own homes is entirely up to you. But I'll stick to texturing if its OK with you Lars. ;) :D :D
Thanks again guys. I'm glad my hard work is being appreciated.
more soon, now I'm off back down the texture pit :)

Hey madman? do you think you can give some hints on texturing a complexed model such as yours? I'm talking creating the actual texture in a paint program in such a way to make the texture wrap around the model so well?
If it reveals some of your secrets than don't worry about it, I'm just asking! :D |

Make that three.
I do have plans to make a tutorial on texturing its just a matter of finding the time.
@ Birdnest... Making the textures wrap around the model 'so well' is all down to UV mapping and is noting to do with the paint program used. I use a combination of UV mapper pro and Ultimate 3D unwrapper and unless your using these programs a tutorial wouldn't be much use to anyone!
Wow, this looks like it could rival your bathroom pic in grossness, I like it Oh no, this is going to be Waaaaaaay grosser :D Thanks Brian.

LOL ! Oh no, you caught me :D *removing tubes, hoping nobody saw it* ;)
Medical sites for reference has it's risks (completely loosing appetite is one ;)), I ended up on one of them looking for eye-texture references...and yuck !
Grosser than the toilet? How are you going to achieve that??? ...unless you plan to place him on it...hmmmm. ;) |

Well the plumbing is finished (and now I'm corgi registered :D that wont make sense if your not from the uk  )
I thought that it was an interesting demonstration of how simple objects can be made to look very different with just the use of textures, bumps & shaders. The pipes are all simple 16 sided tubes but I think you'll agree the variation that can be achieved is quite interesting.
Now on to the question of the horns....
The original plan was to texture the horns to make them look organic, like those of a goat etc. but after the success of the pipes going into his body I'm considering making the horns look like they are poking through the skin and are made of a more industrial material.
But what material??? Chrome, carbon fiber, steel, plastic, brass, copper?????
So the question is goat horns or industrial, and if industrial what kind????
Some opinions would be greatly appreciated please folks.

I'm awaqy from my pc for a couple of days so I've only just seen this - gorgeously gory work Steve. The chicken head diet certainly seems to work for you!
Here's my suggestion re the horns - titanium as suggested by Kate, only to add to the mechanical/biological (and to challenge your awesome skills) I'd like to see blood vesselswrapping around the horns. That way there is a slight ambiguity about them, are they mechanical or biological, are they part of the original life form or were they grafted on from som other hellish creature?

Hi MadMouse,
I've been watching this develop since you first posted it, but rather than jump into the thread a hundred times to tell you what I think about it at every turn, I decided to wait until you were nearly finished and it appears that you now are. This is absolutely - spot on - top notch - work you are doing on this... it sets the bar VERY high indeed for the rest of us. Well done.
As to the type of horns poking through, I'd like to see titanium or cobalt textured yet organic shaped goat horns with various industrial type fixtures / bolts at the point of protrusion... and of course a little related gore. ;)
This is awesome stuff, whatever you decide. http://smilies.instinctive-hosting.com/smiles/positive/applaudit.gif

Thanks for the feed back guys.
Here's my suggestion re the horns - titanium as suggested by Kate, only to add to the mechanical/biological (and to challenge your awesome skills) I'd like to see blood vesselswrapping around the horns.
Now that's an Idea that I REALLY like!!! It also solves another problem for me. I was a bit concerned how I was going to go about UV mapping the largest of the horn with the spiral shape but if I go with your veins idea they would only need to be nearer the base of the horn and that could save me a lot of trouble. I think I'll go with chrome instead of titanium though, so that it matches the rest of the 'mechy' parts. Thanks for that Stephen (your 2 for 2 now. any chance of a hat-trick?;) )
I decided to wait until you were nearly finished and it appears that you now are. nearly finished... far from it I'm afraid. lots of work still to do.

How about a......somewhat rusty steel, with a few nicks here and there, add some dry blood streaming from the skin adjecent to the horn, and some blood veins crawling out? :D |

Thanks for the suggestion but I think that rust would look a little out of place on a mech that is so shiny and clean everywhere else. |

Well as we all sit around waiting for the countdown to end, I thought you might like something to look at.;)
Its been a bit of a struggle getting the textures just right on his face, and I cant tell you how many incarnations he's been through to get here. But at last I'm finished with the head and horns (or am I ???????).
Sorry W!Z but I tried your idea for the horns, but either my texture skills failed me or it was just one of those ideas that sounds good on paper but fails in practice. When I added the veins the horns just looked messy and I had to have a re-think.
I thought you might like to see some of the texture maps, so the last image is the colour map for the skin and the bump map for the horns (both were originally 1500 x 1500 pixels).
Any comments and crits are most welcome.
