Well this taking an unusual turn Steve!
The human looking torso looks quite arresting - at first glance it looks like a powered exoskeleton until you quickly realise they are not human legs!
Re the arms, how about one of each? Human or at least biological on the right, machine arm on the left. If you gave him a human head he could be some sort of bio-mech hybrid wearing a radical battle prosthetics that are stronger and faster than any ordinary soldier..... W!ZARD wanders off comtemplating a picture of a future world where such things are commonplace...... |

The torso looks a bit too bulky compared to the legs. Good modeling ;) |

WOW, that looks good. So it's a Satan mech, huh? His trident should shoot missiles out of the prongs! :D Looks freaking amazing, my only suggestion would be to make the thighs thicker, as the torso is awfully muscular to be next to those chicken wings. :D
That's nothing major though, the whole thing's fantastic! As for the arms, I think it'd be cool if you made them mechanic looking, and then put a sort of organic 'casing' over fair portions of the arm. Not the entire arm mind you, you'd still want to be able to see some of the tech stuff. I think that'd be neat. :D |

Yeah, you could have mech arms with partial organics bits that are translucent, showing the mech underneath |

Wow, Very nice work :)
The mech looks slightly human, even if it is just a macine, because of the torso....
Cant wait to see it finished |

Exactly! Use the robots from iRobot (funny how anything will sell if it has that lower case i in front of it these days.) as a reference, if you will! |

RIGHT!!! before we get started...
NOBODY MENTION BLOODY POLYGON COUNTS!!!!:D
please save that for the relevant thread.;)
BTW the polycount currently stands at 129154 SHHHHHHHHH! don't tell Roman:D
LOL ! :D
It looks amazing, and a combo between organic and mechanical for the arms should look awesome! ( Hemulins suggestion might be tricky but would look great!)
@jamesmc:
Aw, you ruined the surprise by showing the final mech ;) :D |

Re the arms, how about one of each? Now that's a first class idea, hadn't thought of that!!!!! Thanks Stephen.
The torso looks a bit too bulky compared to the legs. I think part of the reason why is the bands that run front and back. In the side view this has the effect of thickening the torso. I didn't want the torso and mech section to blend to well. So that it has a more 'bolted on afterwards' look (does that make sense??)
WOW, that looks good. So it's a Satan mech, huh WoooHooo give the man a cigar. WE have a winner :D
...I mean a Cannibal Mech Ant! LOL! now that's blown it, James has beaten me to the finish. (great stuff James)
I like the suggestions for i-robot type arms but I'm not sure I'm up to the job!
I think its going to be W!ZARD's idea of one of each. But thanks everyone.
Thanks for all the comments guys.

Just a quick update this time...
I've been doing a bit of plumbing (not quite sure where to fit the ballcock):D
The pipes will eventually be woven steel tubing and have nice sore looking areas where the pipes enter the torso. OUCH!!!

Hey Mad Mouse,
I love looking at your WIP's they really do show that you can create anything your mind thinks up on these packages! I look forward to the finished article!
Just a quick question...
I am relatively new to trueSpace, using ts 6.6. My question is what settings are you using for the materials when illustrating them on here (you know the greyish models) they always look so damn realistic and cool! Im not sure if it is possible on ts 6.6 but just though I'd ask if its not too much trouble.
Thanx
Jimbo
P.S. Keep these WIP's coming they really are inspiring! |

Im not sure if it is possible on ts 6.6 but just though I'd ask if its not too much trouble. Thanks Jimbo. It's not the material that gives the effect, its just a simple Phong shader with all settings at 0 except for Diffuse which is 0.8 and a plain colour shader set at pure white. What makes the model look so nice is the lighting. If you look at the attached image you'll see how its done using an array of infinite lights all with the same settings. It can use up a fair bit of memory making the shadow maps but it's certainly possible to do in TS6.6 Myself and others have been using this technique in versions of TS much older than TS6.6.
HTH Jimbo (if not send me an IM and i'll try to explain better):)
Okay, my last toon for this thread...I know MM might be getting annoyed with these. Nah... makes me chuckle just as long as they don't beat me in the monthly's ;)

No worries about using these in the Monthly's, these toons are all drawn in 2D Vector. :)
Not that they are that good to even enter. heh |

So, John, have you made the jump to TS7? Also, what've you been up to for the past six or so months? (If you don't mind my asking, of course!)
And since I have something of a history of accidental thread-jacking, here's something relevant!
I really like how Satan Mech (shall we call him iSatan?) is progressing! That said, I know you already bulked up the legs a bit, and most of the "segments" look fine. The thighs though, still seem a bit weedy to me. I've taken the thoroughly undeserved liberty of poorly photoshopping your last posted image (hope you don't mind! It's just easier to show it this way, rather than describe it), showing roughly the size I think the thighs would work best at. This is, of course, only a suggestion! You're the modeling master here, not me, by any means! Keep up the usual excellent work! |

I do take your point Methusela but as I said higher up in the thread I think from the side view the torso is made to look thicker than it really is because of the 'straps' that run over the front and back. If you compare the three images below you might see what I mean. I do like your mock up (no I don't mind BTW) but in it you don't have to worry about the clearances that are needed to allow the hip to move this also has the effect of making the hips look 'weedier' than they are. Also I didn't want the organic pieces and the mech pieces to look as though they are to well blended. In short what I think I'm saying is I like it the way it is. But thank you for you comments and of couse you kind words.:)
On a related note, I suddenly get the joke(or clue?) in the title of this thread! Oh dear!!! after a comment like that you may have to return the cigar you won earlier :D ;)
