I saw the other thread with a piano so I decided to make one too!
I still need to add the black keys and add some textures |

nice start! keep it up. The white keys don't look all that white, but maybe that is the lighting |

Very nice so far!

Nice texture work!
This upright piano is quite similar to the one we have in our livingroom. Looking at your renders here I get the impression that the piano is a little too wide for it's height (or too short for it's width!). Are you working with a reference image? They can be invaluable for getting the scale and dimensions of everyday objects to look right. The human brain tends to see what it thinks it's seeing rather than what is actually there.
Hope this helps

I really like the shaders you've used, especially on the piano itself. My suggestion would be to add a local light with mid to low brightness with shadows turned off, as this will soften the really dark shadows.
Keep it up! |

As a pianist, my first impression was the same as W!ZARD's, it seems a little out of proportion. What adds to this is the stool which seems far too wide. Apart from that it's looking good so far, keep it up. |

I have trouble with proportion on the piano I did even with photographs from the web as they were usually just from one angle.
In tS66 I noticed there is a piano model in the Library, a grand piano style as I recall. It may be helpful for proportion, not sure sure as I didn't notice it until after I did mine. :D
If you want to get technical about it, there are a few websites on the Web that show how pianos are built/repaired. I didn't go that far as mine was meant for a prop.
Lovely wood texture there and the style is a classic upright which I like better than the grands. |

I agree that there seems to be a slight proportion problem - to my eyes the keyboard looks too high, relative to the whole piano and also realtive to the stool.
The stool is indeed unusually wide, although it could be very appropriate for a piano teacher (i.e. a duetting stool?)
To me the 'body' of the piano is also a little deep, but within an acceptable range - there a lot of different shapes.
I agree with jamesmc about the problem with reference photos - the (very poor) picture I provided (camera phone, 'nuff said) probably wasn't much help then. If it would be useful, I could quite easily annotate up a sketch showing main important measurements of the piano we have at home. |

Actually your photo was very useful as it gave me an idea of how out of proportion my piano was. :D
I notice the top of the piano right away wasn't as big as I had made mine. I think I can get a better idea on how to make mine more proportional with the photo you provided.
Thank you very much for providing the photo, it is indeed helpful. :) |

Apologies I didn't get round to doing this earlier - see attached for a sketch of the end view of my wife's piano and a view of the stool, with dimeniosn noted (in cm).
Hope this is of some use to you guys.

Lookin' good. The height of the keys seems slightly high.
Don't forget the pedals! |

Agreed on the proportions. I'd like to see a closeup of the keys if you've detailed them, as well as of course the black keys. |
