OK. New project. I just cannot seem to keep on a theme. What ever catches my fancy is what I work on.
What I need here is a bit of advise.
Picture 1 Floor with map I made myself
4624
Picture 2 the floor now has a bump-map applied. at amp of 1
4625
Picture 3 the floor has the amp set to -1
4626
Which one looks better to you guys and gals? |

pic 2, one thing that really jumped out at me was the color of the inside of the ear and the tail is way too bright, HTH |

None of the above, try .5 or around there. Also the table looks like it is made from particle board. The edge of the table is in line with the bottom of the wall in back so move table toward viewer. I like the Rat (or Mouse) but the fur needs a little bump too. |

Nice model...
Question, you are trying to do a moquette ??
MMM i sugest dont use the same texture as the color shader..
Try to find a good bump mapping texture..
Something like this and try... ;) |

brianalldridge the ear and tail are supposed to be that bright. Cartoon effect.
Steinie below are .5 and then -.5 the table is two layered sand-stone. it took me 4 hours to get the double layer
when finished, the wall will be closer than the edge of the floor, so the table will not line up.
prodigy the floor is not moquette, it is flattened stone with variegated mortar. or it is a vinyl floor in the first picture. ;)
maybe I should blur the edges of the stone so they do not look stitched? Will work on that tonight, gotta get to work now.
I put ina blank wall to show where it will be, it will be a real wall when I get the floor right.
bump .5
4636
bump -.5

Excellent start Kena!
Would love to see more miniatures and normal size objects to keep people admiring the different perspectives. That mouse sitting at a cafe style table sipping a coffee in front of a normal sized Starbucks would be too cute! :D |

OK - I smoothed out the stones on this one.
+.5 on the amp
4641
-.5 on the amp
4642
So... go back to the original stones?
the +.5 here or the -.5?
Or go back to the flat floor? |

The mouse looks fantastic! For the fur though, I'd recommend trying Simbiont's "Plush" shader, it always gives great results! You can find Simbiont at http://www.darksim.com/html/download_simbiont2.html
Best of all, it's free! |

Only one thing jumps out at me, and that's the too-fuzzy speculars on Mr. Mouse's eyeball. Sharpen them up to give the eye that wet, beady-eyed look. |

OK. I guess that the floor is ok now, so I've built a nice hutch to put on the wall.
Next - a couple fo chairs.
Both the hutch and chairs are modeled after ones I saw in DazStudio.
Well. the hutch is, and the chairs will be. |

What a big difference the Fur makes, looking good. I think the eyes are still a problem, the specular highlight isn't right. They would look better and "more "alive" if they were small white dots and not blurry dots. |

Wow! This is looking great!
Agree eyes need a bit more shine (high specular setting good though to keep them sharp). Perhaps with something interesting to reflect instead they will do nicely too.
Scale is a bit of an issue I think unless being human sized is the point of the dream. For instance, bricks in background would be much much larger and particle board table texture seems a bit too finely done. Should be able to see individual pieces of sawdust in it at this scale I would think.
I very much like the new fur. It looks awesome! |

I agree, the new fur does look good. If you like, you can even use the "tweak" section of the shader to change the 'length' of the fur. I use Simbiont for pretty much everything when I do a lightworks render, the results are always great!
I do like how the image is progressing, but I agree with what's been said. You should establish some sort of scale. If the dream is, in fact, supposed to be mouse-sized, I think some depth of field would really add to the sense of "smallness" as well. Keep it up! |

Nope, Mr Mouse is about 5'6" tall. I plan on putting in some other characters so you can try to guess who's dream it is. :) I'll try the tweek to see if the fur looks a bit better. |

not having good luck with the tweeking. Any sugestions?
I added a pet cat to help you see the scale, but I don't like his fur at all.

How do you get long fur? Or spotted perhaps? |

I'm still not completly happy with the cat, but decided to shelve the problem for now and add a third character to really add perspective. |

Hmm, I've been using mostly Vray, so I haven't used Simbiont in a little while. I'll take a look for you once I get a chance.
I know you can't get long fur in Simbiont, you can only fake a kind of a "buzz cut," if you will. For long fur, it looks like you'll need TS 7.5 and Vray. |

good heavans no!! :D I couldn't model an animal if I tried. I do ok with inanimate objects like the table, hutch and plates though. I pulled him off of DAZ Animals and exported him. Then I replaced the eyes with something that works. and re-textured the whole rest of him. Unfortunatly, I cannot get the DAZ textures to export to TS, so I just make those up as I go along. |

Ah right! I'm like you ... couldn't model a convincing animal if my life depended on it. And there is no point in reinventing the wheel I say. |
