Hi everyone. I'm working on OBJ Material support now. Almost done.

Question: Does anyone have an OBJ and MTL file with ambient and specular maps? Is this something that is often used? The map is basically an image file.

If you have a sample or two could you please post it? I'd like to import it using LUUV to see how it handles these types of maps, if at all. The documentation does not mention it.

thanks!

Got something you can test. textures were painted after a photo ( guess who ?:D)onto the head in 3d Coat exported and applied in Carrara 6 Pro and reexported.

They work in Kerkythea I tested it here with this render.

Thanks Rayman. I'll give it a whirl.

I've been experimenting with textures with transparency. Funny thing is,

a MTL file can have a single texture file referenced, but with a transparency map, that one (JPG) file gets expanded into at least 2 files. One is the transparency map. Strange. Gotta figure that out.

I'm not sure if this helps. I prepared some time ago some simple textures for testing uv mapping coordinates. They are verey simple but helps to keep track of the mappings.

For example if you don't know wich portion of a reflection you are watching, with this you can make an asumption with the color of the reflection with texture 1, or the numbers.

You can also see the deformation of the texture using diferent uv projections.

Also there is a tool that can convert cob files and snc files to obj. If your files have textures, it also generates the mtl file. AccuTrans 3D. It has a free trial period.

I don't know how perfect the format is, but I did some tests and the conversion looks good.

Thanks Rafa.

The problem I was having is specific to truespace (Workspace side) textures.

I was experimenting with OBJ import/export; I see One bmp file referenced in the MTL file, but somehow that got expanded into 3 files which confused me.

It appears only truespace does this, so I'm not concerned about it now.

I'm working on an OBJ importer for the Workspace side.

Thanks!
