Greetings,
The last information that I could locate about the SDK was this link to the
beta from Norm,
http://cdn.caligari.com/SDK/sdk_tS76PublicBeta3.zip (http://cdn.caligari.com/SDK/sdk_tS76PublicBeta3.zip)

Is there a newer one?

For some reason searches brought no results about the SDK.

I am in need of newer documentation, perhaps even posts that might
supply updated topics.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan.

That's the latest public SDK documentation available.

Not many folks here are plugin developers; there's a handful of us that are.

Do you have a specific question we could help with?

Hi Alan,

That is the current SDK. :)

Drop a post if you have any trouble with it. ATL knowledge, Visual Studio, and a GUID generator (comes with Visual Studio) are required to use it.

Greetings,
Much gratitude to:

frootee
Jack Edwards

for your replies
and offered assistance.

I have been using tS since 2.0 and was extremely impressed and gratifed when it employed Python, the consistent dedication of the pathfinders and users has made remaining loyal to the product and vision easy, and finally, the path the product has followed since 7.5 and 7.6 has made it a joy to work with. SDK, Scripting, the transition paradigm, and foresight in development (reminiscent of the brilliance of COM) and the integrations to date makes me eager for what might be next.

However, I am in the business, and have gone through more acquisitions than I care to remember, some were good and some were bad. Naturally, I'm holding my breath.

I thought to get an updated SDK and spend the honeymoon and restructuring period addressing my wishlist of utilities and customizations. I have just spent some time ranging about the forums, product site, and MS, trying to get information about the company and product transition. I have not had any luck.

Can you gentlemen point me to any substantive posts or pages?

TIA,
alan17

Hi Alan.
There is no information from Microsoft nor Caligari regarding the business details. However, the Captain's Blog thread is where Roman posts announcements now and then:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=893&page=5

The Public Beta of the SDK is most likely very similar to the finished package. There are some documentation issues to be resolved, primarily: spelling, missing text. A few of us have already made some plugins. Stan is working on a layers plugin; I've released a fluid sim importer which imports fluid sim data from blender for playback, reverse playback, rendering, etc. in truespace. I am almost finished with an OBJ importer. Jack Edwards is working on an importer/exporter which handles OBJ, FBX, and some other formats. I wrote a little plugin that lets you render using Lightworks, but you need at least one window set to the Model side, for it to work.

The SDK itself is pretty solid from what I've seen.

As for company stability, and the future of truespace: I'd say the app will be around for quite some time, though there is currently no offline renderer for purchase for workspace side. VRay is no longer for sale. However, Jack and a team of scriptors have been very hard at work on a Yafaray exporter and interface for use with truespace. I think there are some other renderer plugins on Jack's list.

If you're interested in scripting, we have a scriptor meeting every Tuesday night. Here's a link to the info for this weeks'. Should be good; Robert is going to show us some particle demos he's been working on:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?p=100004#post100004

I haven't been in awhile; actually I finally showed up a couple weeks ago but, at the Tue. night meetings is where we talk scripting, chew the fat, and also discuss SDK stuff on occasion.

The forums are a very friendly community. There are lots of folks here eager to help, so ask away!

If you are very good at sleuthing, you can find little tid bits here and there to get some ideas where TS might head.

Tomg posts help

Roman posts... well they are few and far between.

Norm occasionally comments.

MS Virtual Earth blog is a good place to find some very tiny crumbs to see where TS may head. Lots of things are going on over there.

Or just remain as clueless as the rest of us and sit and wait to see what the future may bring.

It's very cool that you're that strongly interested in doing some plug-in development. I've got a trueSpace developer community website that I'm working on. It's going to be a few weeks yet since I still need to finish up the YafaRay site first, but I'm really excited about it and the more people with energy that we can get involved the better it'll go.

The idea is to have a public section for users, and a private section for developers to share and educate each other. With a store front-end for users to browse members plugins and the public forums for plugin reviews, articles, and user support. I've got a test forum already set up and working with paypal membership subscriptions and everything, but it's looking like a monster task to seamlessly integrate that into a CMS, so I may redo the whole thing as CMS. Still learning really. The more I work on it, the more excited I'm getting about the final design though! If we can get enough developers together and excited about developing for trueSpace I think we could create an explosion of plugins. :D
