Ok here it is. Thanks to all thoes who helped me with ideas. I did all the modeling in TS then took it into Bryce 6 for the render, simply because it has a much eaiser light and atomsphere interface than does TS. |

The Orange area looks a bit to large for my taste and i would move the cross in the orange area.
Why you don´t do this in illustrator / Photoshop or any software to save it as vector format ?
But the work is okay. :p |

Bryce 6 has an much easier light and atmoshere interface than trueSpace? You must have a very different version of Bryce to the one I have ;) . To be fair I rarely use my copy of Bryce, (especially since I got Vue 5 Esprit) and that's because the interface seems so clunky to me (especially the material editors) and because I'm used to the more intuitive tS UI.
Anyway - for my taste the orange material is too....orange and lacks any real interesting features - perhaps some sort of variable bump mapping might give it more life? Second, the first two words have a distinctly different tilt to the last word which may well be deliberate but looks ...uncomfortable to me. The different tilt angles to the text looks gives the peice an unfinished and hurried look IMHO.
This is not bad as it is but I think it could be better. Are you working from design sketches? If not you may find that it helps to plot out the relative sizes of the logo's components before assembling your final geometry. Hope this helps. |

This logo looks good, rjeff! I do agree with Vizu - you should have a vector copy. That way you can use the logo on any size output from business cards to billboards, without loss in quality.
For this, try the free InkScape program (http://www.inkscape.org/). In fact, it has a built-in tool for converting rasterized/bitmap images (like your render) to vertex. I think it's called Bitmap Trace tool (Ctrl+Shift+B). It even handles color, not just black-and-white stuff.
Give it a try!
P.S. You might want to try a bit of a gradient on that orange, making it a bit darker perhaps at the bottom. Would help the text stand out more, I think. (InkScape handles gradients very well, by the way.) |

thanks for the feed back guys. I do appreciate it. The orange is indeed intened to be that bold. I am not sure how familiar you guys are with classic cars but alot of them had bright orange racing stripes on the hood and that is what that is meant to capture. I assume the "tilt" you refer to in the letters is the same. I did not alter them at all. As far as putting the cross in the orange part I felt that would be to culttered and I was going for very simple and to the point. Mainly becase this logo will go on a tee shirt and the more complicated you have it the more the design will cost to print and gong to a tee you might lose a bit of detail. As far as the interface in Bryce, I was just referning to setting up lights. All you have to do is find a sky and click. I think TS is very hard to set up a simple sun and clouds..Bryce is eaiser in that aspect. It is also very easy to change the angle of the sun with a simple click. Now for modeling..no way is it better than TS..not even close. |

I know this is a finished piece but did you consider using the cross in place of the "t" in the word Christ. I can picture it there and tilted to the right and turned slightly.
I would also consider a drop shadow behind the emblem so that it comes across 3D. That would make it stand out more. Nice work. |

yeah I did consieder that, but I though that it may break the flow of the lettering abit. I could adjust the angle of the sun in the image to give the letters some depth. That may however change the metal look of the v. |

If you want to get the most out of your 3D apps, especially a program like tS you need to get a couple of resources on using lights. I recommend the books "3D lighting history, concepts, and techniques" which has MANY tS specific light scenarios and the bible of 3D lighting "Digital lighting and Rendering" 2nd edition. |

Re 'tilt'; Look at the dimensions of the letter 'C' in the first word and compare this to the dimensions of the letter 'C' in the last word - there is a non-uniform difference in scale which means the tilt of the last word is clearly different to that of the other words.
Whilst the same font is used throughout and thus the source maintains the same tilt, the last word has been scaled at a different height to width ratio to the first two words. This effects the angle of the letters and the difference causes a cognitive disconnect.
Re setting up lights in tS - there is a collection of excellent light set-ups in the light library - 1 click and there you go, Dawn light, mid-day, afternoon, sunny cloudy, moonlit night, starlit night plus others - check them out you might find one you like and of course they make an excellent place to start investigating and creating your own unique light set ups.
Hope this helps. |

Yes they look different because one is bigger than the other. I had to make the top line smaller to fit in the emblem properly. I made Christ bigger to put stress on the reason for the club. Some times uniformity is not called for and this is one of thoes cases. |
