glass eye
Yes he'd inspect something, take his glass eye out and wipe it (the eye without the patch) put it back in and say "That's better... ahah 1796 doubloon for me collection of double-headed doubloons"
"But Captain there were no 1796 doubloons that was the year we went metric put your pince-nez on"
Sorry mate I've just sussed out a was-holding-me-up lighting annoyance and possibly a crashing problem* I'm over-excited :)
This character could go places. Jamaica? (testing if you're British)
Hair grooming function crikey is that another name for a comb. Badger-hair brushes are illegal in UK btw. Fur I mean :)

LOL - No she went of her own accord - Do I pass the test?*
Badger-hair brushes are illegal in UK btwHmm - that explains why badgers always look so scruffy!
@Steinie - Looks like your pirate has more mates than you realised - isn't it scarey how these characters take on a life of their own?
*I'm from Kent - like that other famous trueSpace 'Steve'; madmouse :D (not to forget Nez who is also in Kent). |

I've been studying the photos and renderings you guys sent me and noticed a couple oddities.
Prodigy,
First there is an unmarked barrel of rum on the deck of the Miranda which is empty. How do I know this? Because they had asked the crew to remove their left shoe for the picture taken and what did they do instead?...
They look pretty darn happy too!!! They can't mess with MY Pirate because their too CLEAN!
W!zard,
You are zipping around these Oceans lately like a hotshot Captain! Your building a Fleet too! Not enough to stop my Pirate and his vessel. (Unlike any you have seen before) Try to shoot a fly with a cannon..
The Pirate's Vessel doesn't have a single cannon and it is in such bad shape the crew just rams it's enemy in hopes both go down!!!
So put on your Gym clothes because your going to Davies Jones Locker!

LMAO I love the piratical pigeon Kate!!!!:D
Bob.... I'm sorry mate but I'm not to keen on the background. I seriously think its letting the excellent little pirate guy and his dog down. I take it its not a render. Maybe just having the side of the boat but as a render would be more effective but I don't know how this fits in with your overall plan for the image.
Hope you don't mind me sticking my oar in (sorry for the nautical pun to;))

Steve, Hey nothing to be sorry about. We both can take the good with the bad, that's what a WIP is for. I'm not too clear on what you don't like. The boat was handled as a prop for the scene as is all the rest. I wanted the focus on the characters. Believe it or not the boat was rendered! I just didn't do any texturing to the wood. It's definitely not a W!zard Boat, I was after the leftovers. What I think the picture needs is less focus on the background. I actually like the picture except for certain areas on top of the ports. (I have bad taste)
To show how pathetic the boat really is I got my inspiration for the boat on the back of a box of "Captain Crunch":D
WWitch on the other hand has great taste! Of course the one eyed dinner can come on board...look he already comes with a tooth pick!:D |

@WWOTW - Ah Kate I do hope no birds were harmed in the making of your picture - too funny!
@Steinie - sorry Bob but I'm with Madmouse - Your pirate and his dog capture a wonderful zaniness (the 14 year old lad from next door was visiting and saw your pic on my monitor and was most impressed with me until I pointed out that this was YOUR pirate and not mine).
I think the zaniness (if there is such a word) stems from your own marvellous sense of humour and your pirate guy shows that whereas the ship on the other hand looks like something off the side of a cornies packet. I was anticipating a distinctly more zany looking vessel.
Don't get me wrong though, I like what I see here. Perhaps you could just add a bit more zane? |

I'm not too clear on what you don't like. Its dificult to say this without poo-pooing your work on the background but you did ask...
I think that background looks a little rushed. The edges are soft and blurry and there is very little detail. The water line looks extremely faked. It seems a shame to allow this to spoil the look of the whole piece as the little pirate guys and his mutt are so nicely done but the background distracts your eye away from them and drags the quality of the scene down.
Oooh now I feel bad. (like I just kicked a puppy;) ) Sorry Bob but I didnt want this project to slip into less than your best work. |

Thats what I want to hear! Too many times people just say stuff like "Awesome Work" or "I like it" which is not really helping me improve the project. I don't take things personal so your remarks help guide me to being a better TS user. When work is posted in WIP I would hope everyone jumps on it and helps the Artist. When it is posted in "Finished Work" the Artist work is done and the Viewers are now just spectators with opinions that probably won't change the work.
I put mine in WIP so you Scurvy Dogs can help me make this one better!:) There are a bunch of TS users here that have talent "Above the rest" and your one of them. I take what you and W!zard say very seriously but not personally.
I also hope other Artist out there do the same thing. Use the WIP format for improving your work. It's not for ego boosting. |

Well said Bob.... I couldnt agree more. Its always nice to hear how cool your work is but more often more useful to hear how bad it is :)
So now the ball is in your court and I'll expect to see a new, improved background soon. ;) :D

The grain on your plank is running the wrong direction.
It's also a very stiff and square plank.
Bang it up a bit and bend it like it's bearing weight. |

Well I rebuilt me a Pirate Ship with a solid foundation! Something I'll be proud of, thanks to the keen eye of those two varmits Mad Mouse and W!zard. I hope you like the improvements.
I still need to add the rigging and more importantly... let me get to the joke in the picture.:D
Edit: Oh by the way the ship has a name now and named after it's creator "The Flying Bird Brain" |

Avast there me hearty! Thats a much better looking vessel IMHO. I'd be tempted to crisp up the hull plank texture a little and perhaps a woodier texture on the masts but then that's because I enjoy texturing things!
Some rigging may well provide the sense of detail to this.
This must be a really good joke though given the length of the build up!!;) ;) . I'm looking forward to the punchline. |

Definately an improvement Bob, I must agree with W!ZARD about the texture on the side of the boat though. Needs to be a little more crisp.
