Hello!

I've started a new WIP, and it appears to be one great leap of faith that I hope I don't screw up. You know why? It's all in the name: The Untitled. This is an animation I'm cooking up, shot by shot, as I create it, without stopping to think. I don't know where it's going to head, only where I've already been with it.

So far, it looks like I'm off to an excellent start! I've already redone two of my logo's for this, and as I check back here occasionally, I'll be looking for a whole lot of comments and criticism. Let's get going!!!!      :banana:

PS: I've attached my first sample to this message. What do you think?

looks nice... I think I would like to see the original logo metalic instead of "glowed" Or maybe combine the two?

Alright! I've changed some things around (eg. Video speed, A/V sync, and the soundtrack). I tried to give it a metallic look, but it just made it seem less realistic. I'm about to move on, any last minute requests?;)

Just for comparison, I brought over the old versions of the logos. What do ya think?:D

Hi,

Excellent start! You can go anywhere from here ;)
I found it just a little bit concerting when the yellow star appears, with all the flashing going on.

Hi all!

Here's another update. I've been doing a lot of tweaking with what I had, and I think that it's turning out nicely. Here's what I've done:

* Made changes to the "glow" effect to make it seem more fluid

* lowered the opacity of the "flickering" to make it easier on the eyes

* Added some film effects to give it a nice touch

* Added sound effects

* Created a title sequence

looking cool, one thing though, perhaps you ought to downplay the amount of glow effects your using, its very easy to become obsessed with the effect present in many packages such as Photoshop. You have used it on almost everything possible and I reckon some of it would look better without.

The timing and animation is solid and the title track really works heh

Keep it up

Yet another update! I've done some more tweaking with the different effects I've used in post processing, and I'm finally quite pleased with what I've got. I also began creating actual content. Every last feature is composited using Sony Vegas 7.0a. Though every single layer was created using a mix between photoshop CS2 and trueSpace 7.5.

Enough chatting about it! I attached a sample in this post, so you can watch it and tell me what you think!

Matski007 - I tried to tone down the glow effects, but unfortunately it didn't seem right when I looked at it. I did, however, cover some of them up with a different effect, and I think that it looks much better.

Here's the latest news! I'm really starting to get into it now! Check it out!

PS: This thread seems to have been getting either little or no feedback. Is it that your all uninterested/can't view the content/haven't noticed?:(

I'm just curious, and it would be quite nice if I could get some more C & C.

20 MEG Wip? You just eliminated half the Western World from being your audience! I have not watched it yet but I would rethink your intentions.

Sorry John - I'd offer some comment but I tend to skip over the animation stuff as it's not my area of expertese (assuming I have an areas of expertese!). The other reason is that I'm still on a dial up connection and unless an animation is quite small I generally lack the neccessary patience to download them - sorry!

FWIW the stills you've posted look good.

Totally cool! 2much4u!

The music you've picked for the background really makes it! I love the percussion beats at the beginning as your logos appear.

Add a little more story to this and get a better title :D and you've got a winner in the monthly animation contest as far as I'm concerned!

This is looking real good. Now I am all interested to know what the movie itself will be about - you do have a movie planned right, this is not going to stop with just this tease of a title sequence I hope? :)

Presentation was very slick, nice direction, I particularly liked the coming through the blinds part and they snicked closed heh, nice directorial touch there.

Anyway, I hope you will keep sharing more!

Thanks!

Tom

Sorry guys! I've been having difficulty finding a good balance between quality and file size. WMV 9 seems to be the best codec right now, though if I make the video any smaller than 8 Megs, it starts to lose a lot of good content, particularly when it gets to the star-files.net logo. Does anyone know if its possible to have certain bit rate for certain parts of the video?

I'll try to post some more stills when I get the chance.

Totally cool! 2much4u!

Thanks! Those posts just lit up my day!:D

Forcemaster2000 - If your wondering, the music is a track from Linkin Park's new album (Minutes to Midnight). If you give me an email address I can send you the file if you like.

Nice!

I plan on having this video go on for the entire length of the song. If I remember clearly, that's about 4 minutes. This is going to make it very difficult for me to enter it in the gallery (15 MB limit). Would Caligari be loose enough to allow something that's slight more substantial? I'm guessing no, but I have my fingers crossed.:)

About the story, I'm going to keep people in the dark for now, but the truth will soon be revealed.:p

I've done some more research on video compression, and stumbled upon the great novelty of "variable bitrate." This is great! Now, I'm able to make the file size up to 4 times smaller! I hope that it's small enough for users such as W!ZARD and Steinie to view it....

I have DSL so the file size wouldn't be my problem but wanted you to be aware of all the other people out there who can't get DSL or Cable. You certainly want as many people as possible to enjoy your animations as much as we did. Nice going!:)

Oh!:D OK. Sorry for the misunderstanding. On a different note, though, how did you like the animaton?

I liked it a lot! I like the camera work but thought you should have kept it going to the last credit or opening scene. It reminded me of Orson Wells camera work and that is the best compliment you can get!

4 Megs.... what a difference for the viewers out there! Hope your fan base grows now.

2much4u - thanks for the name of the song/band...appreciate the offer, but my son's a big Linkin Park fan, and I'll bet he's got it for me! :D

I watched the new version and the compression bringing it down to 4megs doesn't seem to have hurt it at all, still looks great. Can't wait to see where you go with this!

Hi John - thanks for going to so much trouble - you'll soon be the 'go to guy' for info on video compression (my head hearts just thinking about it!)!

Sadly however even at the smaller size I've so far been unable to DL it. I seem to run into problems DLing attachments from these forums - I was unable to get Mad Mouses QTVR either - and I get about 1.5 megs into the DL and it cuts off.

Given that I was able to download tS 7.5 and it's manual from (presumably) Caligari's main servers I'm wondering if it's an issue with the forum server?

I generally don't have any problems DLing, just attachements from the forums here. My modem is running at around 41 kbps so your .wmv should have taken about 20 minutes - I get about 8 minutes in and it drops off. :(

I use an online storage service to share files online. The next time I update the video, I'll use that instead. Perhaps you'll be able to download it then.

Only some of them DLed for me - the rest were little red 'x's. Obviously they are missing the dynamism of movement and sound but they look good.
