Timbuktoons // Work in Progress

I'm looking to get a job (or an internship or something) (but ideally a job. :D) with a guy who lives near me who started his own animation company. It's called Timbuktoons and it seems to focus on the more religious (in this case Christian) area of interest. So, in an effort to impress, I've taken it upon myself to model the camel that is so majestically emblazoned on his homepage (www.timbuktoons.com). I've been also using this as an excuse to force myself to learn TrueSpace 7.5 features. I've made alot of progress so far, and the body of the camel is done almost entirely in 7.5 (with the odd switch back to modeler side for my own well being. I'm like those orange monkeys that I forget the name of. I only wander a few feet into the unknown until I have to rush back in and work up the guts to do it again. XD). I'm very nearly done, so I figured I'd share my progress so far, as I'm quite proud of it. Also it means I'm actually going to get something done.

Also, has anyone else noticed that Vray 1.5 seems to suck? I'm all over 7.5, it's great, but Vray 1.5 seems to be a whole bunch of steps backwards. I can't save to a .jpeg with no compression! Also it seems to take longer to render. I hope that gets fixed soon.
And Tomasb, don't worry, I've not forgotten you. This is the model that I crashed 7.5 with (in the modeler side) and I'll post a diagram of exactly how I did so when I get the chance. Sorry for the delay. >_< |

I did not use Vray 1.0 too much so I am not so sensitive to render time as those who have used it more but it did seem to take a rather long time to render that clock I am working on...no transparent shadows, one omni light and GI turned on (default settings). Took about ten minutes to render at 800x600....mmmm:rolleyes: |

Hey cool camel - camels are one of my all time favourite animals. In fact I once did a 4 day camel safari in the Rajasthan Desert which was one of the all-time highlights of my life!
You've captured that slightly goofy, slightly snooty look well.
Oh and I think that it's not actually a camel unless it has two humps - the one hump chaps are called dromedary's. |

Love the camel!
Just saw a thing on camels the other day...covering the dromedary, and the two-humped ones that spit (whatever they were called - it's been a whole couple days ago). Very interesting animal.
You could clone him, then place some eyelashes and some red lips and whatever else on the copy and have a pair! :) |

Not wanting to pretend that I know anything about camels and other humpbacked animals, but isn't camels the ones with two humps?
And dromedary's the ones with one hump?
In that case, the timbuktoon would not be camel but a dromedary? |

Don't you just LOVE the Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camel)!!
Camels are even-toed ungulates in the genus Camelus. The Dromedary or Arabian Camel has a single hump, and the Bactrian Camel has two humps. They are native to the dry and desert areas of Northern Africa and Asia, respectively
Basically a Dromedary is an Arabian Camel.
Oh, yes... I think the legs are a bit too bowlegged. |

Well I like your camel! To improve him/her you could move the eyes further apart. Eyes on a camel are not together like you show them here but on each side of it's head. One eye can't see what the other is doing.;) |

I'm sure he doesn't want to go too far away from the logo that he is trying to turn into 3-D ;) |

Your right! I missed that it was based on someone else's drawing. |

Yeah, I can't take credit for the design, that's all his. ^^
Thanks for clarifying. I remember reading about camels in an encyclopedia somewhere now that you mention it. I, like Kena, thought that a Dromedary was simply a sub-category of camel. :D
And yes, Kena, he's definitely bow legged. XD I did notice, and I plan to fix him when I rig him up for *gasp* animation. D: |

The single-humped camels are classified as "dromedary" and the double-humped camels, the spitters, are classified as "bactrian".
They are both two different types of camels. |

I'm looking forward to getting him moving too!
In fact, Jack, I plan on using your morpher to animate his face :O
You could well be directly involved in commercial projects if that's the case, and if so, do I have your permission to use it? Also I need to figure out how to use it. XD |

Sure, use away :)
Not sure if it'll work with a boned mesh yet, so let me know if you run into any problems and I'll see what I can do to fix them.
Edit: oh yeah, and with the keying panel we can now keyframe the actual slider positions. :)
